Super hyped (Dior actually just released a new iteration with their Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss) and rather expensive – but being a hydrating lip product stan, I feel like I’m ideal for reviewing the OG Addict Lip Glow Oil. Let’s get to it in my Dior Lip Glow Oil review!

I was properly influenced to buy the Dior Lip Oil, a product that’s usually not something I’d go for. But, after an unsatisfactory end with Lisa Eldridge’s lip gloss (see Instagram), I was looking for another everyday option for when I just want something comfortable with a hint of colour on my lips.

Dior usually wouldn’t be my first choice: But still, curiosity, kills the cat, I’d heard good things, wanted to take it to Iceland (which is always the ultimate test for me: does any lip product protect my lips in the wind and the cold?!) and had a voucher… So here we are.

What it is

Dior Lip Glow Oil review

The Dior Addict Lip Glow lip balm is available as a glossy lip oil that deeply protects and enhances the lips, lastingly bringing out their natural color.
Genuine lip care infused with cherry oil, Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil instantly nourishes, protects, softens and revitalizes the lips.
This lip oil teams an intense lip care formula with a natural, flattering color finish for an ultra-luminous result. Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil adapts to all lip colors to bring out their rosy glow. Its non-greasy, non-sticky oil texture pushes the boundaries of shine and creates a smoothing film that shapes the lips with an almost magnifying, mirror-shine effect.
Multipurpose lip makeup, Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil can be worn on its own, as a lip primer under lipstick, or as a top coat for volumizing shine.

Dior

Formula

Dior Lip Glow Oil review

Let’s say the first and foremost thing: She. Is. Thicc.

I’m absolutely flabbergasted how they market this product as an oil (thin, slippery) when first, the texture is anything but, and the first oil in the ingredient list comes in after fragrance. WELL.

What we have here is a very, very thick and plushy gel-like gloss that smells heavily minty-cherry with a dash of vanilla and doesn’t impart any real colour. (Thankfully, you don’t really taste it.)

Application/packaging

Dior lip oil application

Dior packaging is just not my jam. I mean, what IS that weird silver bobble on top oof the cap?!

The applicator is huge and hugs my lips, and you have to be careful when you pull it out of the tube, because there’ll be strings of gloop coming out – this looks a bit like the funny vids cosrx posts when advertising their snail line. YKWIM?

Finish

Dior Lip Glow Oil review

My shade Rosewood (012)is one of the darkest ones, and well, on my lips it’ll just look like clear gloss. Dior says it “brings out their (the lips) natural colour” and for once, they’re right. They’re also right when they burble on about the “mirror-shine” effect, because, yup, shiny!

After all my bitching, this is the time to admit that I love the formula, and that’s because it’s so moisturizing it’s ridiculous.

Forget the rest of Dior’s purple prose: I guess you could call this non-oily in a stretch, because oil performs very differently, but boy is it sticky. Remember the old MAC lipglass formula? It’s that sticky. That’s also the reason that I doubt this would be great as a lip primer (honestly, what are they smoking at Dior?!), because when you’ve figured out to layer something over the rather thick layer of goop on your lips, let me know.

Wear/ Longevity

Look how blurring the lip oil is on my lips! It’s so shiny the camera had problems picking it up. (Right pic with oil, left pic bare.)

But: the glossy/moisturizing effect stays. After hours I’d press my lips together and yup, it’s there. Not worn off after a few minutes like many glosses, or when you had a sip of your drink. Also, your lips won’t be in need of moisture seconds after it has worn off. It’s spectacular. And I don’t understand it at all.

What’s also great? To layer this over a lip liner. STUNNING!

Comparison

Lisa Eldridge’s gloss is similarly moisturizing, but is actually a gloss, you know?! (Which means thinner and with actual colour.). Clarins’ lip oils are much thinner, and come with a punch of colour as well. Fenty Gloss Bomb (the OG, at least) hasn’t much colour either, but is also thinner and not sticky.

Worth it

skincare rating

I truly think that Dior advertising does make a really bad job out of this, because this is stellar as a lip mask. It’s not an oil, nor a gloss. But: I love it and want to have it in my life always.

Availability & Price

I do find the price ridiculous for what it is, so wait for sales and discounts. I’d never pay full price for this, no matter how much I love it.

At Dior, it’s 0.2 oz/ 6 ml for $38.
