*Taps mic* – ‘Hello?! Hello! Is this thing on?’ Um, hi. I feel a bit rusty in my blogging skills right now, because my move consumed weeks where there was no place for anything else. (Everything I posted in May was actually pre-blogged content.) BUT! Here we are, and I have favourites, non-favourites and chestnuts. (Yup, really.) On to May’s best beauty finds!

Fave: Aveeno hand creams

best hand creams for dry hands

So, Aveeno, while super popular in the States, is nearly unknown over here. Its body lotion works very well for itchy skin when my hayfever acts up. When I last ordered that one, I tried out the hand creams for my perpetual dry hands (made worse by packing and handling what felt like millions of boxes). I opted for the ‘green’ (Daily moisturizing hand cream for normal to dry hands) and ‘blue’ (Moisturising hand cream for very dry hands) creams and like them both. I don’t think there’s a huge difference between the two. Both are very moisturizing while not too heavy, sink in quickly and don’t leave an oily residue. They’re also not that expensive.

The only downside for some people might be the scent: Aveeno doesn’t use essential oils or fragrance, and the scent of the creams reminds me of something unpleasantly ‘chemical’ when I apply it. It’s doesn’t linger, though – but it’s not a ‘feel good cream’ like L’Occitane does, for example. (I buy them mostly at whichever online pharmacy I can get a good deal or at Lookfantastic).

Fail: Catrice and Essence lip oils

budget lip oils and tints

Ugh, budget options sometimes DO give you budget quality. Lip Oils are a THING right now, and why not try out some cheaper options than Dior’s notoriously expensive one? (It is lovely, though, even if the price is hard to stomach.)

But both Catrice’s Lip Oil and Essence’s Lip Tint thingie were both fails for me: Essence’s Tinted Kiss has a weird, drying texture, although it does leave a serious stain. Catrice’s feels like a run-of-the-mill lip gloss to me and doesn’t feel like a thick, cushiony oil at all. (Go to Nyx for your budget lip oil needs instead).

Chestnut trees

May best beauty finds

Where I am in the world, the chestnut trees are blooming right now. I just moved to a street lined with chestnuts, and every morning I wake up and look at clouds of pink blossoms. It’s incredibly lovely, and reminds me that all the time spend with boxes, hard work and annoying occurrences that happens when you move, it was worth it in the end.

Also coming to an end? The one-post-per-week-thing that I did in May. In June, let’s go back to our regular schedule with posts every Tuesday and Thursday, and let me tell you, there’ll be a lot of posts you’ll love (amongst others, I’ll have a review of Paula’s Choice’s new sunscreen up on Thursday. Stay tuned!).
