Goodbye

It’s time to move on to new projects. (And yes, it’s the project I’ve been teasing for months.)

Like with any breakup, this one has been a long time in the making, from the ‘no, everything is TOTALLY fine’ to the ‘maybe it’ll get better again’. Like every relationship, when my love affair with beauty started, everything was sunshine and roses, and in the end, you want to kill the other one for breathing loudly.

Over fifteen years ago, I sat at my desk in a fancy office, looked out of the window and couldn’t find an answer to the question ‘what the actual fuck am I doing here?’. I was earning quite a bit of money, and nearly every night, coming home, I cried when I realized how unhappy I was. Actually, I was quite proud when I decided to quit: I had chosen my wellbeing over a career.

Weirdly, I started to think about being back in that office more and more this year. When I was writing, everything was fine. But everything else felt like wading through molasses and slowly suffocating. Was it the beauty industry’s fault? Was it blogging? Was it mine?

What does the future bring?

First, I have to thank Astrid and Abi who eleven years ago pitched their idea to me and asked me to come on board as a writer of the blog and give me the opportunity to write about a topic I love. And after so many years, I’ve finally come to realise that yes, I’m a writer, and yes, I need to write. And isn’t that great, because that’s what my next project is going to be.

Introducing: Fab50s!

A few years ago, I met Irit at a Beyer & Söhne event, and we started talking. We both felt stuck with blogging, and were shopping around for a project that would play to our strengths – and at the beginning of the year, we finally found it. We’ll launch an online magazine for women over 50 (60, 70… the more the merrier!) after we realised that there isn’t one on the German market. It’ll be subscription based, completely independent, and we’ve gathered an awesome group of talented women to work with. The only downside for most of you – it’s in German. At least, in the beginning: we already secured the .com domain and will definitely be thinking about the site in English for international readers, too, in the future!

Come and find us at Fab50s from November 1st when our first issue goes live – which will be the date when the blog shuts down, too.

And finally, it’s time to thank all of you who read the blog over the years. I’m hugely grateful and humbled by all of you finding value in it.

With love, Dorit
