I recently bought a lip gloss from Lisa Eldridge’s brand and it is one of the best I’ve EVER used, so I thought that was a noteworthy thing I should share here, because DAMN IT’S SO GOOD. Here’s my Lisa Eldridge lipgloss review. Read on!

I’m waffling on my stance on Lisa Eldridge’s emporium quite often. (Not on her person, to be completely clear – I don’t know her, obviously.)

I don’t love her makeup line per se: some products are fine, some are so-so, some I haven’t tested. Her book on makeup offers some gorgeous imagery, but stays annoyingly on the surface of why we wear makeup (here’s a better one). And then, the emporium itself: the jewelry, the pop-ups, and the enormous privilege which sometimes leave a strange taste in my mouth.

You’re never buying only a product, but also the image of the brand: and that is very much a founder who bought a collectible Cartier lipstick holder for 50.000+ pounds, has a husband at Conde Nast and a gorgeous London townhouse. Not every makeup artist with a passion for art history is able to start from there.

Anyways.

Lisa Eldridge lipgloss review: What is it?

Lisa Eldridge lipgloss review

A rather pricey lip gloss that comes in 13 shades. Blush, the shade I chose, is described as:

“An archetypal cool toned, pink berry inspired by the flush painterly hues of Rococo artists such as Watteau, Fragonard and Boucher. It doesn’t get much prettier or more intensely feminine than this. Varies from a natural lip, if applied as a lightly, to a fully flushed pout.”

Lisa Eldridge

Um, yeah, well – I’d describe it as a cool, mauve-leaning rosewood shade. It’s rather neutral, maybe even verging on a nude MLBB shade, depending on your skintone. It looks much more pigmented in the tube, though.

Brand description

Gloss Embrace lip gloss

“Embellish your lips with a smooth non-sticky veil of colour whilst simultaneously replenishing them with nourishing oils and butters. This clever multitasking formulation functions as both ‘light to medium’ and ‘medium to high’ pigment gloss (depending on the shade) and an instant restoring treatment, cushioning the lips with emollient hydrators and leaving them as soft as silk.”

Formula

Blush lipgloss and Velvet Blush lipstick

“A gloss and lip care hybrid with key lip care ingredients including wild mango kernel butter, acai berry oil, sunflower seed oil and vitamin e oil.”

Lisa Eldridge

What’s more interesting than the blurb are the actual ingredients, and what makes up the bulk of the formula: and that’s an interesting mix of emollients and film formers. The combination of both makes up a formula that’s plush and silky, non-sticky but with excellent film forming abilities. Add to that the aforementioned oils and butters, and you’ll get a great formula that is both long-lasting (for a gloss, obviously), non-sticky and nourishing.

Application

Lisa Eldridge lipgloss review

I’m not the biggest fan of the doe-foot applicator used here. I would’ve wished for a plushier one, but it’s by no means uncomfortable, and for my lips, it has a good size. The gloss itself feels wonderfully non-sticky, plush and silky, and what’s surprising, that feeling stays.

It certainly looks different than regular glosses in its stubby little container with the brushed gold cap. I don’t have an opinion on the packaging per se. It’s fine I guess?!

Finish – Wear – Longevity

The lip gloss has (surprise!) a glossy finish. No matter how much you talk or drink, this keeps up. What I don’t like is layering it, neither for a more intensive colour, nor over a lipstick. I do find it tends to get gloopy then – maybe because it’s so moisturizing to begin with.

It neither pools in my lip lines, nor bleeds; on the other hand, it doesn’t make my lips as smooth as on the pics on the LE homepage.

Comparison

Lisa Eldridge Blush lipgloss comparison

I love moisturizing lip products of all kinds. Lip Masks (Laneige, Paula’s Choice) or lip glosses: MAC’s Creamsheen Glasses have been a HG for a long, long time. Fenty’s OG Glossbomb? Niiiiiiiice. This one though? Is out of the world, because it truly does combine the moisturizing properties of a lip mask with the fun and ease of a gloss. Your lips are dry as hell but you don’t want to carry a pot of your fave lip mask around? THIS is your solution.

Compared to the Lisa Eldridge Velvet Blush lipstick, the lipgloss is notably warmer and browner.

Lisa Eldridge lipgloss review: Worth it?

skincare rating

If you do like lip glosses: what are you waiting for?! This is an exceptional product, and if you find a shade that tickles your fancy, run, don’t walk. (And I don’t say that lightly: my reviews usually include a lot of “could”, “would” and “maybe”.) So there, you have it: the best lip gloss I’ve ever tried.

It’s only available at the Lisa Eldridge site. 4.5 ml / 0.15 Fl Oz are £18.00.
