The months of July and August are supposedly “slow” months in the beauty world, and if you took a little break (went on vacation, perhaps?) like we did, I’m happy to report you didn’t miss much – just the usual shenanigans! Here’s what happened in the beauty world: the beauty news Summer 2022 edition.

Beauty News Summer 2022

Revlon went basically bankrupt, and honestly, when was the last time you even thought about Revlon?! (Financial Times)

Apparently, Makeup Revolution had to lower their forecast drastically, which isn’t good. (Mainly, because they bought bh cosmetics and I want a triumphant return for them.) (Angelica has great info on Youtube.)

Celebrity brand shenanigans: Rhode is in a trademark war, which is SO INCREDIBLY stupid of them I can’t even, and Kim Kardashian’s SKKN is just plain stupid. (The Cut)

Haus Labs and Commodity are now sold at Sephora US, and Glossier will be in 2023 (CNN).

Estee Lauder wants to buy Tom Ford. Yes, you heard that correctly, and we’re NOT talking about TF Beauty. No: all of it: fashion, accessories, the works. (Highsnobiety)

Dior allegedly renews contract with Johnny Depp for the Sauvage ad campaign, and I want to hurl. (Global Cosmetics News)

Fenty Hair is coming! Byrdie has the intel. (Speaking of Fenty: they managed the most stupid release of the summer. No awards will be given. – Standard)

LVMH sold all its Russian Sephora stores. (Reuters)

Smashbox and Glamglow closing down in the UK. (British Beauty Blogger)

Allure is closing down its print format. (Fashionista)

This story about a gender-neutral hairdressing salon warms my cold, cold heart. (Vogue)

Let’s leave the nostalgic beauty trends behind us, shall we?! Embrace the new, people! (Also: say no to 90s brows, we looked like idiots back then.) (Allure)

Ambergris is a big thing in perfumes. It’s basically whale vomit, incredibly rare and expensive, and hunting for it has become – rather wild in New Zealand. It’s a ride. (And also shows that synthetic fragrance ingredients have incredible benefits.) (Guardian)

Sustainability

Mayyyyyyyybe plastic packaging isn’t bad?! (Elle)

Jesus Christ on a bike, and before we get too positive around here comes the news that “body glitter is the hottest summer makeup trend”. Sometimes (that’s a lie, it’s rather often) I despair of humanity. (Premium Beauty News)

Greenwashing is a big thing in the beauty community, but savvy customers nowadays demand proof. (Vogue Business)

If you’re ever in Milan (Italy), go and bring your old sneakers to this master craftsman who’ll not only repair them, he’ll also give them some pizzazz. No need to buy new ones! (I love it. I want to do it.) (New York Times)

Life, love and everything else

lifestyle news summer 22

Scotland is the first country in the world where period products are free. Bravo! (BBC)

This is just a lovely interview with a lovely woman (actress Lesley Manville, don’t worry if you don’t know her) who shows that women are fabulous, no matter which age (and their fabulousness doesn’t decrease with age). (Guardian)

Can I just say that I’m so, so looking forward to the new Lord of the Rings series Rings of Power? (I’m also absolutely stunned at the hate and vitriol it meets online from racists and mysogenists. – Den of Geek.)

Beauty News Summer 2022: On the Blog

summer break

For the first time since this blog began, we took a break, and much needed was that! Going into Fall, I can only say that both Astrid and I suffer from various health issues and there’ll maybe be additional breaks needed in the future.

In the meantime, there were sunscreen reviews aplenty (Anessa Whitening Sunscreen & Perfect Sunscreen, Etude House, Eucerin, Beauty of Joseon). Then, other SPF topics (how much do you need, other sun protection than sunscreen, our fave Korean SPFs, sunscreen shopping tips). Skincare reviews: PSA The Most serum, The Ordinary EUK serum; and some makeup reviews: Makeup Revolution foundation stick and Lisa Eldridge’s lip gloss.
