Some weeks ago, I realised I “needed” a tinted moisturizer. Like you do. My adventures with a franken-moisturiser were rather dismal, so finally I decided to bite the bullet to achieve that “no-makeup-makeup-look”. I wanted a light coverage that would hold up well during the day, and Fenty Eaze Drop seemed the answer. BUT WAS IT?!?! (No, reader, it was not. But let’s go on with the Fenty Eaze Drop review!)

What I usually wear

Fenty Eaze Drop wear test

Before the pandemic started, I was a huge fan of cushion foundations and their light, glowy coverage. Nowadays I’m more into the “matte+full coverage” life, because foundations promoting that usually last much better under a mask. I also found the joys of a powder foundation (Fenty – review here – and Kiko – review here).

My usual shade in Fenty is 140, NC15 in MAC, Y215 in Make Up For Ever, SB06 in Illamasqua and No. 4 in Armani.

I’ve got sensitive combination skin with some redness issues and uneven skintone.

Ingredients

No alcohol denat., no fragrance, some goodies like Hyaluronic Acid and antioxidants.

Application

Fenty Eaze Drops coverage
Skincare I regularly use in the AM under the Eaze Drops.

Rebel that I am, I do use this with a beautyblender. Yeah, it’ll waste some product, because it has a very runny texture, but will still give me the nicest finish. (Tried it with my fingers and wasn’t a fan, because it looked heavier and cakier from the get-go. No.)

You can build this up to a degree, but Eaze Drop won’t really cover blemishes and dark spots. Plus, the more you build it up, you’ll lose that lovely barely-there finish.

For me, this works best over a minimal skincare routine – the lighter the finish, the better. It’s advertised to work over “any” skincare – take that with a grain of salt. A primer might be a good idea (see below).

Finish

That lovely, barely-there finish! Oh my. It’s incredible. The copy hasn’t lied, because, yes, my skin looks faintly blurred and smoothed. It’s indeed very lightweight, a barely there feel. (Not absolutely undetectable as Lisa Eldridge’s Foundation, but very lightweight compared to other foundations.)

Upon initial application, it looks great: nothing pools in pores or gathers in fine lines.

I’ve to set it with a powder, though – otherwise, the longevity is minimal. (See more below.) It’s a pity though, because the powder diminishes the skin tint’s wonderful skin-like finish.

Wear time

As always, not filtered, and only eye makeup and Fenty Eaze Drop No. 2.

Here’s the big but: everything up until here sounded great, didn’t it? Application is a breeze, I like that my shade matches me well, finish is great as well.

Long-wear, though, this is not. What it also has not: a “Humidity-, sweat-, and transfer-resistant formula” as advertised.

Here’s what happens when I don’t set Eaze Drop with a powder: after about 30 minutes my glasses will have smudged the tinted moisturiser on my nose and on my cheekbones. Wearing a mask is a complete disaster, and any touching of my face will leave traces.

And the full face look. Yep, looks great, but I’m missing the dewy finish of the initial application

Every drop of water will leave traces, no matter set or not, and even set a mask will rub it off completely if I wear it for a few hours. Blow your nose? Forget it.

I haven’t worn it in humid or hot weather, but can just imagine the catastrophe that would happen: it would simply melt off my face.

Comparison

Fenty Eaze Drop No 2 comparison

When I trialled Lisa Eldridge’s Seamless Skin Foundation it immediately reminded me of Fenty’s Eaze Drop formula: it is similarly weightless, has a similar amount of coverage, and I had similar issues with longevity. Both lack a certain sturdiness that I want in a foundation, even if they both excel in an easy application with a smooth, blurred finish.

Worth it?

skincare rating

I honestly don’t think that I’m the best skintype for the Eaze Drop formula: A slightly drier skin might not have the longevity issues I encountered. Sadly, I especially wanted it for days when I wear minimal makeup and am out and about, which it is absolutely not the best for. For work-at-home scenarios and zoom meetings, though? Not bad!
