I was influenced by the interwebs and here I am with a new stick foundation. (I was never interested in stick foundations before, but it’s supposed to be great?!) Onwards to my Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation review!

The brand

What can I say: a fast beauty brand par excellence, a brand that copies other brands products with gusto (allegedly plagiarizing makeup concepts directly) and one that relies heavily on influencer marketing.

They’re also vegan, peta-approved cruelty-free and have a decent quality for the price. It sprung up in 2015, and have since founded a gazillion brands.

Makeup Revolution Fast Base Foundation review: What it is?

Makeup Revolution Fast Base Foundation review

“Foundation just got faster! Launching in 18 shades and a range of undertones, Fast Base Foundation quickly perfects, contours and highlights your complexion. The easy-to-apply stick formula melts into skin, blending seamlessly to leave a fresh and dewy finish.
Twist up, swipe on and blend out with fingers, a beauty sponge or your favourite foundation brush.”

Makeup Revolution

The Fast Base foundation is supposed to be lightweight, with a medium coverage and matte finish.

The shade I chose is F4: “F4 – For light skin tones with neutral undertone

My usual foundation shade is MAC15, Fenty 140.

Here’s what I like in a foundation

I still love cushion foundations for a glowy and light finish (but don’t like their stickiness), love matte foundations for a non-sticky finish that works well under masks and face coverings, and powder foundations for summertime when it’s hot and humid and everything else melts off my face.

I got influenced to buy this, and I’ve to admit, a stick foundation wasn’t really on my list to try. But I liked the finish when I saw it on people wearing it, and yes, it’s cheap, and it was available at my local drugstore, which aren’t really good reasons for buying a product. Yet here we are.

Shade match

MUR Fast Base F4 shade comparison
(Yes, in this pic Catrice looks hella dark, but that’s the foundation I sheer out the most, and Fenty looks incredibly yellow, which is my usual complaint with their shade range.)

18 shades isn’t much. Also, it definitely looks like there’s a lot of range and different undertones in the nine light shades, and then we’ve got a half-hearted attempt to add some medium and three dark shades.

F4, the shade I chose, is described as neutral but seems to lean very pink for that. Nevertheless, I can wear it well because it definitely oxidises and turns less pink.

Application

Makeup Revolution Fast Base Foundation review

I’ve tried some different application methods, because yes, this is my first foundation stick. I honestly don’t like to apply it directly to the face and blending it, because it sets relatively fast. I usually apply a generous amount on the back to my hand (swiping back and forth) and dipping into that with a beauty blender and applying and blending from there.

This gives me a better way to control it, and also: it gives it a sheerer finish. Directly applying to the skin and then blending may result in a rather full-coverage finish, which I don’t like.

You can, of course, blend with your fingers or a brush, but I’m a beautyblender person.

Finish

wearing Fast Base foundation stick in F4

What can I say?! I love it. Yes, it gives me a great medium coverage that can be tweaked and sheered out or build up. Incredibly lightweight? Yes. And yes, it’s matte (but not dead!) and non-sticky.

What I love the most is that it doesn’t pool in fine lines or pores. It doesn’t accentuate dry spots. It plays well with ALL sunscreens I’ve been wearing underneath it, no matter of dewy or matte. And, on top of that, it doesn’t break up or starts to look cakey during the day. It holds up easily for 8+ hours looking pristine without even having to set it with powder (I think in summer I’ll definitely set it, though).

If it starts to look a bit messy by then, it’s super easy to just smooth it out with the tip of a finger and set it with a bit of powder. (Ymmv depending on your skin type and the climate zone you’re in.) I’m a bit hesitant to call it blurring, but I think it makes my skin look great.

Comparison

Let’s have a look at the last foundations I tested: the stick foundation has much more coverage that Lisa Eldridge’s foundation (review) that’s more skinlike, but Fast Base holds up much, much better. The same is true for Fenty’s Eaze Drops (review). Catrice’s HD Liquid Coverage (the dupe for Fenty’s Pro Filt’r Foundation) (review) is more matte, and also tends to accentuates imperfections, which the stick foundation doesn’t.
