The newest news include Maggie Smith (Professor McGonegall!), Taylor Swift, Pamela Anderson, baby influencers, a soap that might cure cancer and glitter. Also, cosrx, Glossier and the cost of makeup – on to the beauty news in October!
Beauty News
Wow, after Amorepacific bought 38.4% of cosrx shares in 2021, they now acquired an additional package of shares. They now own 93.2% of cosrx, which will now be integrated as a subsidiary of Amorepacific. Wow. cosrx, an indie brand no longer. (Inside Retail)
Lisa Eldridge Beauty launches loyalty program.
Rose Inc. is now available at Cult Beauty (for all of you living in the EU and yearning for a toilet shaped blush!).
Also, Glossier will now ship their products to various EU countries, including Germany. (Speaking of Glossier: the book about Glossier I mentioned in last month’s beauty news was already snatched up by Amazon Prime to be developed in a TV series. I clearly misjudged the interest in Glossier. – Glamour)
A 14-year-old invented a soap that might ‘cure’ skin cancer. (Guardian) (In cooperation with 3M, so it is legit, but I was very thankful Capricorneum.skin delved into the ‘how’ in his stories:
Beauty Stories
The True Cost of Makeup (Marlena Stell, formerly MakeupGeek, dives into production costs). (YouTube)
The Rise of the Baby Beauty Influencers (aged 9 to 12). Sigh. (Elle)
Pamela Anderson didn’t wear makeup to Paris Fashion Week, and made the news big time. Good for her?! (Allure)
Handwash is the next big TikTok trend. But not any old handwash, no, bougie handwash! (Think Aesop or Byredo.) (Glossy.co)
Sustainability
The EU ‘ban on glitter’: here’s an overview (Allure) (no, it’s not a ban on glitter, certain microplastics are banned, but most cosmetic glitter nowadays is made of mica), here’s how certain influencers missed the mark completely (Guardian), and here’s a long dive into the question if it’s possible to make ‘sustainable’ glitter (Allure).
Also a legit question: is it really possible to make sustainable perfumes? (Fashionista)
Life, Love and Everything Else
The EU thinks about eliminating baggage fees for carry-on luggage on planes. Yay! (Lonely Planet)
‘Moon-breathing’ might help you fall asleep. (Glamour)
This happens when Taylor Swift goes to a restaurant in New York. (Damn!) (Vulture)
Loewe did an ad campaign with Maggie Smith. Listen, it’s absolutely great to see older women in ad campaigns, but remember: the turnaround for Loewe, in terms of free coverage, is immense, so there’s no real risk involved. I also think Jürgen Teller was the wrong photographer for that specific campaign, but I hope Dame Maggie had loads of fun. (Also, damn, Loewe DOES make nice handbags!) (Guardian)
On the Blog
Let’s go to the last sunscreen review of 2023, which was a hit: Tocobo’s Watery Sun Cream. The next two posts are somewhat linked: Paula’s Choice’s Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner review and me starting with Tretinoin, which, so far, is a RIDE (and the toner helps, really). Also, my fave October finds!
I was also on vacation, had minor surgery and talked a lot with people behind the scenes. But next month, we’re back to our regular schedule of two posts per week.
And remember, make good choices on Black Friday!
