A classic case of “Do as I say, not as did”. Four Black Friday mistakes to avoid. This applies to makeup as well, even if I wrote it especially with the skincare mistakes I made last year (heck, very likely it can also be applied to everything from sneakers to kitchen stuff – well, maybe not that. But, you know what I mean. Or if not, you’ll see. Just read the thing!)

Look, I was swept away by BF offers and deals last year, and I didn’t even realise. It was fine! Everything was fine! Well, I splurged, but it wasn’t that disastrous, and I got amazing deals. That was my narrative, and I clung to it until I realized that holy shit, that was a shedload of money, and holy shit, I got a shedload of skincare products.

This sounds ok, because I actually do like skincare, go through skincare, and also review skincare – but really wasn’t. Because I still have only one face, my stash was overflowing and it was impossible to use all those products in a timely manner. You know what? I actually still haven’t even opened all of them, and am far away from having used them up AFTER ONE YEAR. So here’re some lessons I truly want to take to heart this year.

Don’t make these Black Friday mistakes!

Black Friday mistakes to avoid
  • If you’re buying high-end skincare that’s heavily discounted, but can’t afford to do so during the year without discounts – why do you buy a product that you could potentially love, but then can’t afford? (No need of additional explanation, here. It’s simple: if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it.)
  • You’re buying more than you want because of the goodies/freebies.
First: would you use the goodie? Second: really?! Third: is the goodie something you might want to use in your routine? Fourth: would you actually buy that goodie if it weren’t free? If not, walk away.
  • Even if it’s a good deal, and those good deals rack up over various brands: have you just bought more than you could use up during the following year?! I know I did last year, and I was basically just buying from AoS and Deciem. I STILL have products in my stash I bought last year and haven’t tried, and let me tell you, it’s not fun. It gives me that feeling of having to use something, not wanting to, and also makes me miss out on fun things that were released in the meantime. I mean there’s no way in me buying a new cleanser when I’ve still got three in my stash, right?
  • Are you buying the same thing in various iterations? Looking at four face mists, two masks, four moisturisers, and VARIOUS hydrating serums, I can say, for me, that last year I absolutely did. And that is because I went in restocking staples, AND THEN adding products I wanted to try on top of that. Resulting in various doubles. And again, that’s not fun for me. It gives me the feeling of obligation and having to go through my stash and I am not enjoying those products as much as I could’ve. Which is sad.

And finally…

save money this Black Friday

So here we are: four maxims I want to live by this year. On top of those, remember that we’ll have amazing deals before Christmas, and then next year, too! Also, skincare doesn’t last forever and you just have one face. We got this!
