Briogeo was on my to-try list ever since it was one of the Black-Owned Beauty Brands on our list, and Dorit featured one of the products in her Winter Hair Care post. I am incredibly excited about the specific line for curly hairs.

First, a confession: I originally wanted to try was the Curl Charisma, but I got the Farewell Frizz line (that was the one available at my purchase time in Sephora Deutschland). Since my hair is wavier than full-on curly, and I have frizz issues (especially in winter), I am giving it a go!

The TL;DR version: I did not get the dramatic result pictured before and after on the Briogeo Farewell Frizz page.

Now, setting that expectation aside, I’m going to dive into the review!

The Brand: Briogeo

Founded by Nancy Twine, a female POC. It is inclusive, and championing ingredients that is good for you. They also claimed to have ethically and sustainably sourced their ingredients. What’s not to like about this brand?

The Claim

Farewell Frizz is a hydrating and restorative collection fortified with a unique blend of nourishing rosehip, argan and coconut oils to effectively tame frizz.

Briogeo

From this I would be hoping for something that should make my hair less frizzy, a major task.

My Hair

I’m low maintenance with my hair. I don’t color my hair. At the moment, I don’t even bother with the grey strands. I also don’t straighten or curl it, only using a hairdryer when it’s cold and I need to go out asap.

(Please note I’m not criticizing anyone who likes to color, style, curl, straighten their hair. I like how my hair looks, and I don’t feel the need to do much about it.)

My first foray into the brand was the sample sized Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind Shampoo and Moisturizer. While I love its scent and freshness, I don’t feel any difference in my hair. Just enough faith that I would like to try out another line that might be better suited to my hair type.

Briogeo Farewell Frizz Shampoo & Conditioner

The Packaging is sleek and relatively easy to use. It’s not super ideal in the shower because you have to read the label to see which one is shampoo and conditioner.

Scent: It’s more on the flowery – coconut side. At first glance, it smells artificial, and it takes a while for me to get used to it. It’s not my favorite scent (I prefer the Be Gentle, Be Kind line), but it’s palatable.

Consistency: As usual, the shampoo is more liquid, and the conditioner is more gel-like (which requires the bottle used upside down for an easier dispense). Also, as usual, I ran out of the conditioner faster than the shampoo.

What it does for my hair: Unfortunately, I didn’t notice any drastic change (as I said, my hair doesn’t look like the pictured model). But it does make my waves more defined, and my hair looks healthy.

My result from using the products in the Briogeo Farewell Frizz series

Farewell Frizz Blow Dry Perfection & Heat Protectant Creme

This is a product applied before blow-drying hair or applying other heat applications on the hair. I only have a sample size (0.75 fl.oz / 22 ml), the full-sized is 4 oz / 118 ml. But this sample size is still going strong after 1+ months of usage because you don’t need so much per application.

On the surface, I’m not sure if this does anything to tame my frizz. My hair looks the same whether I used this product or not. It just gave me peace of mind that perhaps the long term effect of blow-drying would be less damaging?

Overall Verdict

Briogeo Farewell Frizz series is only an OK product for me. I don’t plan to repurchase, I enjoy using it, but I can get more affordable products with the same result. Still, I want to try out Curl Charisma series!
