A rather innovative sunscreen from a Swedish brand that boasts that you don’t have to reapply and that it works great under makeup?! Let’s investigate in the following Evy Daily UV Face Mousse review!

The Brand

“Evy Technology Sun mousse is developed by Swedish skincare research, especially made for sensitive skin and active life in the sun.“

I started to hear about their line of sunscreen mousses last year, but was a bit hesitant to order (also, it’s rather difficult to actually order, but more of that below) until Michelle from Labmuffin ok’ed them. I’m always in for a unique texture, but with sunscreen, I’m a bit more conservative. I mean, we all know how difficult it is to reach proper protection from sprays, powders etc. – everything that’s not a gel, lotion or cream basically, so – a MOUSSE?!

I chose the Daily UV Face Mousse SPF30 that’s supposed to be suitable for all skintypes, shields from pollution, prevents dark spots and is anti-aging. I ordered that back in winter when I mainly wanted a sunscreen with a high UVA protection.

“The formula enhances your skin’s protective barrier, counteracting pigment spots and premature ageing due to sun and pollution. EVY is enriched with vitamins C and E, hyaluronic acid and collagen.  The lightweight formula does not clog the pores and also helps to prevent irritation and inflammation caused by make-up. EVY helps the skin to retain its natural moisture without clogging the pores. The gentle, allergy-tested formula is suitable for all skin types and is perfect under make-up and after shaving.”

Filters

evy technology sunscreen filters
  • Octocrylene (UVB)
  • Uvinul A Plus (UVA)
  • Avobenzone (UVA)
  • Uvinul T150 (UVB)
  • Tinosorb S (UVA/UVB)

This sunscreen has a Boots 5* rating, meaning it has a very high UVA protection that’ll range between 20 and 30 (from what I understood, I’m not really familiar with their rating system). But even without Boots’ confusing rating system I’m comfortable in saying that the filters seem to indicate a good UVA protection.

On top of that, we’ve got some antioxidants that help with fighting off free radicals that come with pollution, and a few anti-aging ingredients like hyaluronic acid and soothing allantoin (more).

Doesn’t contain neither fragrance nor alcohol.

Extra features

Evy Technology Daily UV Face Mousse SPF30 review

Evy Technology boasts of one extra feature that Michelle actually tested: the formula has certain ingredients that prevent the formula to just sit on your skin. Instead, it will penetrate your skin’s top layer. That means your protection is good for six hours and doesn’t diminish by sweating, rubbing off, and swimming – all activities that cause regular sunscreen to be less reliable after two hours.

The aerosol bottle also makes the formula less susceptible of going off, because it’s air-tight.

On their website, Evy also claims that makeup artists work with Evy on TV Shows like Survivor, because it’s a great makeup base.

Sustainability

It comes in an aluminium bottle. It’s definitely more packaging required than, for example, Garnier Anti-Age super UV’s simple tube. Sure, it can be recycled, but then, aluminium requires extremely high temperatures to be recycled, which makes it not ideal in my opinion.

 Application

The rule of thumb of sunscreen application is about 1,4g for the face. Some people use two finger lengths, or half a tea spoon. When I get a new sunscreen, I usually weigh it on scales to see for myself how much I need to use. With Evy’s sunscreen, that’s incredibly hard. The recommended amount stated at Evy’s site is a blob the size of a golf ball for one arm. Does one arm equals my face? I’ve no idea. Intuitively, I used a blob the size of a walnut first. When I used my scales, I was shocked: I needed to double that amount. Nowadays, I fill the cap it comes with (that’s around 1,2g).

A cup of spf, coming right up!

“The mousse will be absorbed completely within 5-10 minutes and won’t give any sticky feeling. If it absorbs quicker than this, you may have used too little (or you have dry skin) and if it still feels sticky it’s fine to rinse away excess with water without taking away the protection.”

Colour me surprised.

Under makeup/as a base

I usually use a toner/light serum/ light moisturiser under sunscreen, especially during the colder months, while in summer, I might skip the additional moisturiser, especially with a more substantial-feeling sunscreen.

The best way for me is to use small amounts of the mousse, work them into my skin, and repeat. The recommended usage at their site is to mash the mousse together in your hands to create a lotion, and that works better than applying directly to your face. Evy Technology says that the mousse doesn’t leave a film, but for me it does. It also leaves a faintly sticky surface. On the range between Asian-SPF-that-leaves-no-trace and the regular European-it’s-in-fact-a-cream it falls somewhat in the middle. There’s no pilling I’ve experienced, but it’s not traceless. I’ve to say though, that foundation works well over it: Right now, I wear mainly Fenty’s Powder Foundation or Catrice’s HD Liquid Coverage (exact Fenty Pro Filtr dupe). Also, it can be set with a powder to achieve a completely matte face.

On it’s own, it feels heavier than I like, and that’s why, even if it boasts of a great UVA protection, it’s not my fave to wear. I can only encourage you to play around with what you use under it, because it does make a difference.

I also find application overly fiddly, because while I have a good grasp on how much sunscreen I’ve to use generally, the mousse texture makes that very hard to gouge.

Evy Daily UV Face Mousse roundup
Evy Daily UV Face Mousse review
  • White Cast – no.
  • Makeup friendly – yes, somewhat.
  • Sports/active lifestyle friendly – YES! No reapplication needed, sweat and water proof.
  • Eye safe – Yes, no problems with eyes watering!
  • Reapplication issues – You don’t need to, that’s what’s making it special!

Works as claimed:

  • “enhances your skin’s protective barrier” – can’t say.
  • “counteracting pigment spots and premature ageing due to sun and pollution” – can’t say because that’s a long-haul game and isn’t possible to decide after using half a bottle of this!
  • “does not clog the pores” – for me, it that’s true.
  • “helps to prevent irritation and inflammation caused by make-up” – that’s a completely bogus claim to me, my makeup doesn’t tend to irritate my skin and why should it?!
  • “helps the skin to retain its natural moisture without clogging the pores” – it definitely feels moisturising.
  • “perfect under make-up and after shaving” – can’t say anything about shaving, but for me, the performance under makeup is ok.

Availability & Price

Evy Daily UV Face Mousse review

Apparently, Evy Technology is very hard to order in the USA; the website Ifsogo apparently ships internationally (I don’t know if they’re legit). I got my bottle from Swedish site Jollyroom. One bottle of 75ml retails for everything between €19-26, depending the site and offers.
