And everything in the Spring makeup collections roundup IS pink: Chanel, Guerlain, YSL, Nars, Dior, Pat McGrath, Natasha Denona – pink, with a bit of burgundies, reds, and browns thrown in.
And I’m not only bored; I’m completely over it. It’s not innovative, it’s just the most basic effort, and as a beauty lover, I feel duped. WHY should I be interested in this? Can someone remind me?
I somewhat get it. Pink is a happy colour. Allure mentioned recently that people started to dye their hair pink during the pandemic, because the colour is both uplifting and calming:
Sanam Hafeez, a New York City-based neuropsychologist, says that pink is the color of “universal love of oneself and of others.” “Pink represents all that we need in this world right now,” says Hafeez. “Very often, pink is thought to have a calming effect. It is not a ‘loud’ color like yellow or orange.”
Allure
And, let’s not forget, it’s considered super, extra feminine.
So here’s what I’m going to do: I’ll post the usual promo pics and release dates, with links to reviews you might find helpful. Maybe something will make your heart sing.
Spring makeup collections roundup
Natasha Denona Love collection
A new standalone mini eyeshadow palette, a blush duo and a lipstick, in, you guessed it, shades of pink. (Hey, the lippie is nude, though.) Out already, the palette is limited edition.
Swatches at Temptalia, a great comparison swatch of the cheek duo at Chicprofile.
Pat MCGrath Labs Divine Rose II collection
I’m a Barbie Girl, in a Barbie wooooorld…
The Mothership VIII Divine Rose II is one of the big PMG palettes, and is a repromote from last year. If you’re only buying it because of the one duochrome shade, there’re oodles of dupes. The eyeshadow quad is a new release, same as the highlighter (all LE). Also, there’ll be two liquid lipsticks (new formula and permament) in – pink. Launches end of Jan/beginning of Feb.
Mothership VIII is even now in stock at various retailers. Here’s Temptalia’s initial review and Mel Thompson’s vid.
Nars Claudette collection
Cute packaging, an apparently really difficult blush formula and sheer matte lipsticks that give you that ‘blurred’ effect. I like the warm and neutral six-pan eyeshadow palette, but we DO have exactly these shades, don’t we?! Inspired by Francois Nars’ mother (pictured above). (Limited edition, out already.)
Swatches at Temptalia, Videos with looks at Michele Wang and Shams Makeup.
Guerlain Pearl Glow collection
Pink, but make it frosty.
Four products: Meteorites Pearl Glow (very light and highlighter-y), Meteorites Pink Pearl (pink, a blush for pale complexions or a pink highlighter for darker ones), and two Rouge G lipsticks in pearl-bedazzled cases: both pinkish with a frost finish.
Out already, all LE. Swatches and looks at Lexi Jong’s & Suzana Torres’ YouTube.
YSL Pop Fresh
A 10-pan eyeshadow palette in pinks, neutrals and blues (gasp!), plus four Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks in nude-ish colours (two are repromote and LE, two permanent). In the immortal words of Ariana Grande: Thank you, next. Launches in February.
Dior Pure Glow collection
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the pinkest of them all?! – Dior, my child…
Two trio eyeshadow palettes that perform sub-par (or, maybe, on par for Dior’s standards), and a cool-toned pink and purple quint. Everything else is pink, peach or coral and GLOSSY: lip products and even two nail polishes.
Out already: Chicprofile reviewed both trios (here and here), Michele Wang has an application video.
Chanel Les Fleurs de Chanel
Miranda Priestley: ‘Flowers for spring?! Groundbreaking.’
First things first: you’ll get different eyeshadow quads depending on your location: The US gets two repromotes, while Europe/Asia gets two new ones. Star of the show is the blush/highlighter combo. The lipsticks and nail polishes are predominantly red, the (new) quads lean reddish/terracotta.
Sabrina has a lot of swatches, same as Karen. See the new quads in action on Angela van Rosen’s channel. Out now.
