Hakuhodo i-series review

Two weeks, two brushes: Hakuhodo i-series

Let’s carry on with our little “two weeks, two brushes” series, shall we? I got two new Hakuhodo brushes the last time I was in Singapore. Because… well, who can restrain themselves when standing in front of a Hakuhodo counter? Not me! This time, both brushes from the i-series and I had a somehow rocky start. Here’s my Hakuhodo i-series review: An in-depth look at both eyeshadow (i-127) and blush (i-110) brush from the synthetic Hakuhodo brush line.

L'Oreal favourites

Brand favourites – L’Oreal

L’Oreal is one of the biggest beauty companies in the world, with countless brands under their belt, from high-end, to drugstore, to pharmacy brands, to niche. Plus, of course, their own eponymous brand, the one you see everywhere, in every drugstore, in every country. Pulling technology from all their other brands, there’re a lot of absolutely stellar products, but there’re two lines that are generally good, whatever product you try: Base products and mascaras. Let’s have a look at my favourites, shall we?READ MORE

Everything I learned when I dyed my hair purple

Ten things I learned when I dyed my hair purple

About one year ago I dyed my hair purple for the first time. That was quite an experience, first requiring bleaching parts of my natural brown hair with some blonde, washed out highlights. Then my wonderful hairdresser dyed various strands with two different kinds of purple, creating an ombre effect towards the ends. Flash forward to today, and my hairstyle has become a bit brighter, a bit more ombre, and I’ve even touched up my colour a few times myself. Here’s what I learned in this year of purple hair.READ MORE

best high-end rose perfumes

Three rose fragrances compared: Le Labo, Hèrmes, Keiko Mecheri

I’ve a thing for rose perfumes. I don’t know why, but it’s a fragrance family I’m drawn to again and again. We’re not talking about the girly, light and fresh roses though – I like my roses heavy, deep and original. Here’s a comparison of three (high-end, niche) rose fragrances I love.READ MORE

best reads in February

Link(love): February’s best reads

This time around, my best reads in February are nearly all about beauty. They’re also more of the, ahem, nerdy variety. So if you’re a beauty geek, this one is for you. Or if you want to know about the latest MAC release, how beauty ruins traveling, THE best-selling beauty product on Amazon, and how makeup can affect anxiety – go on reading!

The Ordinary Vitamin C serum and primer review

Review: The Ordinary Vitamin C Serum and Primer

The Ordinary – the most hyped up skincare launch of 2016. It all came together: endorsement from ‘gurus’, youtubers, the press (print!!!), a line that’s unapologizingly nerdy, and last but not least, the legacy (it’s a Deciem line, after all), the clean chic and, yes, the price point. It’s incredibly cheap, and the message is somewhere along the lines of ‘shit that works can be cheap’. You’ve got to do your homework, though – the names aren’t necessarily understandable or appealing. Instead of ‘anti-aging’, you’ll come across ‘Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F’. Beautyjunkies handled the release like the second coming, and I ordered a shit-load of stuff. Because hey, it’s cheap, and in the name of science… *mumbles* So here’s my The Ordinary Vitamin C serum and primer review.READ MORE

how to feel and look better when you've got a cold

How to feel (and look) better when you’ve got a cold

Is everybody sick right now? It totally looks like that. I came back from my fun trip to Seoul with a cold of death ™ that knocked me out for about a week, during which I lay moaning on the sofa. Here’re my three top tips how to feel marginally human again when you’ve got the worst cold in history.READ MORE

MAC makeup must-haves

Five (odd and overlooked) MAC favourites!

I’ve a complicated relationship with MAC. Like for many beauty junkies, MAC was my gateway drug (back in the days oft he dinosaurs when it was still relatively cheap for a girl on a budget). Between then and now I got kind of exasperated with their limited editions that drop approximately every five minutes, mediocre products they released and great ones they discontinued. But I still enjoy some old and some new products very much, so much that they’ve become staples in my makeup drawer.READ MORE
