Succession drama, sex cults, snail mucin, ‘tauve’ and the world’s best pizza. What’s not to like in the beauty news in November? (And yes, they’re really all beauty-related. Well, not the pizza. But everything else.)

The Lauder family is in trouble over succession drama. Let’s have a TV series?! (msn)

Newsflash: snail mucin, per this video, isn’t ‘harvested in a low-stress environment’ as a lot of companies advertise. No, actually the mucin is harvested in a high-stress environment, and then they’re euthanized. I’ll leave that with you. (Insider Beauty)

Lush has partnered with Ulta in the US to broaden their retail strategy. (Beauty Matter)

This is STILL rumours only, but I’ve heard it now from various outlets: Marketing company Movers & Shakers who has worked with e.l.f., Netflix, Neutrogena and Tinder, and has created hugely successful campaigns for e.l.f. has allegedly ties to ‘sex cult’ NXIVM. You know, I’ve only seen articles in relationship with e.l.f. and not any of their other customers, so I really do wonder if some competitor wants to rain on e.l.f.’s parade. (Rolling Stone)

There’s been a US class action lawsuit about the term ‘reef safe’ sunscreens as false advertising and it’s now appealed. The 2nd circuit court decided that it was reasonably misleading. ‘Reef safe’ IS a misleading marketing term. (Inside Class Actions)

Beauty Stories

If someone looks too perfect on TV, they’ve likely got ‘digital work’ done. Think CGI – instead of creating an army of orcs, some digital artist will erase wrinkles, make someone younger (or older, for film) and can do literally everything. (Allure)

I was so ready to hunker down with the excitingly titled ‘The remarkable history of the eyeliner’ by Zahra Hankir, and then, she (still on the first pages) writes about the Western eyeliners full of ‘chemicals’ and guys, I just can’t, and I’m sad about that. (NYT, gifted link)

Actor Sidney Sweeney debuted a lipcolour beauty editors fell over in excitement about and I can get behind: it’s ‘tauve’. Let’s make it a thing! (Allure)

Nail slugging?! At this point, why not slather our whole selves in vaseline and call it a day? (Glamour)

W00T Michelle (Labmuffin) is on Wired!!! Go and read the excellent feature!

Life, Love and Everything Else

Model Karlie Kloss bought id magazine to save it from closure. Well, couldn’t she have bought Jezebel too, while she was at it?! (RIP Jezebel.) (Fashionista)

WHY do people gravitate towards ‘natural’ remedies? The Guardian investigates the science.

The Lonely Planet send a writer to Sicily to test the world’s best pizza. She was smitten. (Why don’t I work for the Lonely Planet?!)

Ah, yes, the Holidays. Full of sentiment, good cheer, family time… and money. Lots of money. The NYT shows that all those advent calendars, window displays and makeup limited editions are a full-year job full of interesting logistics.  (NYT, gifted link)

On the Blog

best beauty blog posts in November

I put on my big girl panties and we had two weeks with three posts each this month! One of those extra posts was about the plans to add affiliate links to the blog and what that means, and also THREE round-up posts to help you shop (either Black Friday, or the sales, or whatever) from Allies of Skin, The Ordinary and Paula’s Choice. For that, I combined all the reviews and gave you recommendations (and learned that I’ve already reviewed 34 PC products on the blog. How insane is that.).

Reviews: Of the new Rabanne makeup line, especially the Colorshot eyeshadow (excellent!) and of the Beauty of Joseon cleansing balm (ALSO excellent). Then, my ‘toner 101 for beginners’, and the best and worst sunscreens of 2023. And finally, my November faves that includes nail polish and cookies!
