Let’s face it: while we always think winter will bring those idyllic sprinkles of snow, it only rarely does – even in Northern Europe, where I live. What’s more likely: miserable rain for days without end. Here’re the makeup products that won’t end up dripping down your face.

I’ve to admit that the idea of this post was planted last summer when I visited Iceland. I’ve been in Iceland a couple of times (and wrote about it!), but that August the weather was miserable, culminating in rains that came horizontally at you. I wear only minimal makeup on vacation, but I can assure you: you’ll look like an idiot even when that minimal brow pencil and eyeliner is washed off your face (at least I did). So, here’s my list of products that actually stays on your face, even if you find yourself in the middle of a rainstorm in Iceland!

Face

A long-wear foundation is the way to go. I use Catrice’s HD Liquid Coverage, which is, as you might know by now (because I won’t shut up about it, sorry), a 100% dupe of Fenty’s Pro Filtr, but without the amazing shade range.

Tarte’s Amazonia Clay blushes tout a 12-hour wear time, and hold up decently on me.

Eyes

I’ve got three hero products that I love to wear, even if there’s no rain: Mac’s OG Pro Longwear Paint Pots, Kiko’s Long Lasting Stick eyeshadows, and ELF’s No Budge Shadow Sticks. (ELF is the only stick eyeshadow that has dried up on me in less than a year though – ymmv.) All very good one-and-done options, and you know me – I’m all for that!

Sephora’s 12h Colourful eye pencils will survive even a swim, if you fancy that (the shimmery shades are better than the mattes after their reformulation earlier this year), are cheap and come in a plethora of colours. On vacation, I sometimes just use one, smudge it a bit, do my brows and mascara and call it a day.

Speaking of brows: essence’s superlast 24h eyebrow pomade pencil comes with a super fine tip to pencil in single hairs. Its shade range is dismal, though.

When it comes to mascara, nothing will ever beat Japanese brand’s heroine make volume and curl super waterproof mascara: this has survived whole snorkeling trips and looked pristine in the evening after a day in the ocean. (Original review.) (You need a VERY good remover for this one, I use Clinique’s Take the Day off Balm and haven’t had any issues yet.)

Lips

fave rainproof makeup products

Sure, you could use a liquid matte lipstick and call it a day. I like a good lip pencil better: in this instance, I use my HG Kiko Creamy Colour Comfort lip liner and layer a gloss over it if I want to. Really, this is one of the best budget makeup items in existence, comes in a variety of great colours and is truly what it says on the tin: it’s creamy and comfortable, and when it dries down, it won’t budge. What are you waiting for?!

Here’re my makeup picks that’ll absolutely hold up in rain, sleet, tropical thunderstorms and what-have-you. What are yours?!
