Fenty Beauty will release a fragrance! Rihanna has already done some celebrity fragrances, now the first proper Fenty fragrance was announced with two promo pics picturing (you guessed it) Riri herself. (Harpers Bazaar)

In Germany, Paula’s Choice will be available at Douglas from September 6th (both online and in-store, but only selected products, not the whole line-up). (WWD)

British retailer Feelunique sold to Sephora. (Global Cosmetics News)

French “cool girl” Violette leaves Estee Lauder, becomes Creative Director at Guerlain. (Did she do anything memorable at EL?! I guess a French brand is a better fit.) (Fashionnetwork)

Beauty Stories

Fear-mongering in cosmetics marketing is getting out of control. HARD agree. (The Star)

Clean beauty is a bubble that’s going to burst: sustainability is becoming a new “trend”: “Jackson expects to see huge strides in sustainability as well, primarily focused around more sustainable packaging. (…) “Last month we prohibited single-use items and sample sachets, which is a huge first step.” (New Beauty)
Let me add that Paula’s Choice and Highdroxy also did that and I’m continually baffled what’s better: trying out a sample of a product you’re interested in, or buying full-size and then having to return it?! (I’ve written about samples before.)

Injectables enter the realm of “self-care”. Stop rolling your eyes (I did too), there’s more to that than you’d think. Fashionista investigates.

Life, Love, and Everything Else

lifestyle news July 2021

I’ve got an MA in Medieval Literature, and literature and reading has accompanied me nearly my whole life. So when I saw an article how literature can foretell conflicts and wars, I had to read it – and it’s well-worth your time. It’s absolutely fascinating: how a project of the German Secret Service and Tuebingen University foretold wars and conflicts. (Guardian)

Do you follow the Olympics? I usually do. US sprinting star Sha’Carri Richardson isn’t at the Olympics due to a failed drug test that was making waves. Also making waves? Her unapologetic ‘extra’ style as a means of self-representation. (Guardian)

You very likely will have seen pictures of the devastating flood catastrophe in Western Germany. Again, there’s a personal connection for me: I grew up in the region. There’re now two villages where I played with my school friends that’re just gone, and I can’t wrap my mind around that. It’s truly shocking and heart-breaking. Here’s how you can help, if you feel so inclined. (Also vote for people and parties vowing to tackle climate change!) (The Local)

Let’s start with the make-up! I got some new Glam Shop eyeshadows, and especially one makes my heart go boom! The new Kiko powder foundation with SPF50 has quickly become a fave. Less so Good Molecules Discoloration Serum. Speaking of Good Molecules: all the products I tried from them ranked! I then changed my mind about Augustinus Bader’s The Cream and wrote about that. Cosrx’s new hydrogel eye patches weren’t all that what I wanted them to be.

And then, new sunscreens! Astrid wrote about iope’s UV Shield Sun Protector, and I tried Ultra Violette’s Clean Screen. (Have a look, sunscreen reviews now include a handy checklist, easy ingredient lowdowns and wear pics.)
