From worst to best! B&S was founded in 2012. I bought their moisturizer (their first product!) the following year and have raved about it (irl and on the blog) ever since. Coincidentally, I know all their 12 products, so why not rate them?! Here’re all Beyer & Söhne products ranked from worst to best!

Disclosure: while this review isn’t sponsored (I don’t receive any financial compensation for it), Astrid and I were invited to the brand’s 10-year birthday party in Berlin last year. Occasionally, I do receive products from them for free.

This small family-led company with a background in pharmacy was born in 2012. Their product range is very small and all products are based on the same philosophy: only effective ingredients that you can find already in the skin’s building blocks. They don’t use mineral oil, parabenes, silicones, colouring agents, fragrance and alcohol. They’re vegan and cruelty-free.

Technically, I guess they fall under the ‘clean’/ ‘natural beauty’ label. What I like about them is that fear-mongering actually isn’t their marketing strategy, and that their products are genuinely good. Not good-for-a-natural-brand, but good in their own right. (Well, apart from the sunscreens. They absolutely don’t align with my tastes AT ALL.)

You can order samples, they ship all over the world, and, in Germany, you can also order their products at pharmacies.

Beyer & Söhne microfaser test

Squalan and the microfiber cloth. I don’t do Squalan (exhibit A), and do have a working cleansing routine (exhibit B) that I don’t stray from. Nothing wrong with both products, they just don’t fit the requirements I have of my routine. Not my journey.

No. 8 The worst: Dayshade SPF 50+

Beyer und Soehne Dayshade review

‘Dayshade is a light oil-fluid with very high UVA and UVB protection. Red active ingredients from nature provide additional protection and a natural anti-aging effect.’

Dayshade is a reddish oil with interesting antioxidants: tocotrienol, a form of Vitamin E; Asthaxantin, a carotenoid (both are excellent for fighting free radicals), and ceramides to strengthen your skin barrier.

It also boasts a very high UVA protection up to 25, UVB up to 61, and modern UV filters: Tinosorb S, Uvinul A Plus, Avobenzone and Uvinul T 150.

I urge you to read Astrid’s review, because it’s super funny, especially the reel. Long story short: awesome ingredients, but on both of us this is completely unusable as a sunscreen, because it only sits on our skin and never absorbs. Maaaybe if you’re super dry-skinned?! (Careful: can stain clothes!)

No. 7 Dayshade Cream SPF50

Beyer & Söhne Dayshade Cream review

‘Dayshade Cream is an anti-aging moisturizer with high UVA and UVB protection. The silky, creamy texture doesn’t have a white cast.
Natural protection against sun damage with vitamin C, vitamin E and astaxanthin
Improved moisture levels through hyaluronic acid and ceramides
Harmless UV filters for people and the environment’

Sigh. I don’t like the wording, but that’s the least of my problems with the Dayshade Cream. UVA protection is 30, while UVB protection is 50. The peach-colored thick cream truly doesn’t have a white cast, but thick means thick here. If you apply the correct amount, you need some time to work it in, but heaven forbid you work it in too much, because then it starts to ball up. Its finish is super-shiny, and I can make it work if I use Paula’s Choice’s Shine Stopper. But even so, I don’t see any redeeming qualities why I should. Oh, and it also stings my eyes.

No. 6 Cleanser+

Beyer & Söhne Cleanser review

‘This bright yellow jelly is a gentle gel-to-milk cleanser. On the skin, the yellow gel melts into a smooth oil. When you wash it off, a milky emulsion is created that gently cleanses your skin and can be removed without leaving any residue.’

I only reviewed this one on IG, because I was too disappointed to write a proper review on the blog: the yummy-looking gel turns into a milky oil when you emulsify it with water. It has an impressive ingredient list: Vitamin E, tocotrienol, different plant oils, linoleic acid, bisabolol and panthenol. Awesome, right? The thing is, it never removed my makeup. Less makeup-wearing friends liked it, though.

No. 5 Hautgel+ Anti-Aging Serum

Beyer & Söhne Hautgel review

‘Light hyaluronic acid serum with 5% vitamin C, high-dose antioxidants and ceramides. Suitable for every skin type.
Maximum moisture with all hyaluronic acid sizes
Anti-aging with high doses of vitamin C, green tea and resveratrol
Healthy skin thanks to ceramides – the natural building blocks of our skin’

This is actually an antioxidant serum and a ceramide serum in one. (Which might explain the price.) The current reiteration tried to respond to customers’ complaints of pilling, balling up and the heavy film it formed on skin. It somehow succeeded – for my taste, it could be thinner and silkier, and while you have to be careful when using it under sunscreen, it’s a good serum, no doubt.

No. 4 Retinol Booster

Beyer & Söhne retinol booster review

‘Light retinol serum with high doses of vitamin A in 3 effective forms. Equivalent to approximately 0.7% retinol.
0.1% retinol, 0.06% retinal, 0.1% retinoic acid ester
Retinol works against wrinkles and supports a smooth complexion by forming new skin cells
Niacinamide, vitamin C and green tea counteract redness and relieve micro-inflammation’

Awesome retinoid mix. Good effect on my skin. I can’t find anything bad to say about this one, but I’d have loved a few more skin-loving ingredients in the formula. (Original review)

No. 3 Vitamin C Booster

Beyer & Söhne Vitamin C serum review

‘Vitamin C serum (15%) with a light texture. For higher effectiveness our serum contains natural boosters that both stabilize L-Ascorbic Acid and provide a higher skin performance.
pH: 3-3.5
Comes in an airless pump container that protects it from light and high temperatures.
Prevents wrinkles, boosts collagen synthesis and hydration levels for a natural glow. Decreases micro inflammation and gives you a calm, even complexion.’

Still the biggest turnaround I ever did on the blog: first, I hated this with the power of a thousand suns. Now, it’s a staple.

My issue was mainly with the texture, but nowadays, I mix one pump into a watery toner and apply without any issues under my sunscreen. My skin loves Vitamin C, and I love the Vitamin C Booster.

No. 2 Bodylotion+ Anti-Aging

Beyer & Söhne Body lotion review

‘The body lotion with low-molecular hyaluronic acid and vitamin C in a melting formula.
Soft and radiant skin through increased moisture levels.
Firmer, more even skin thanks to a strong collagen framework.
A visibly healthier complexion thanks to ceramides.’

I would bathe in this if I could. Seriously. The only thing I don’t like is the packaging (and, ttbt, the price) – the heavy glass bottle is continually in danger of slipping from my hands when I use it.

It’s moisturizing, sinks in quickly, doesn’t leave a residue, and has no fragrance. At all. It also has a super pleasant skin-feel – not one of those thick, uncomfortable, hard to spread creams! (Original review)

No. 1 The best: Hautcreme+ Anti Aging (three versions) (cream moisturizer)

Beyer & Söhne best moisturizer

‘Anti-aging moisturizer for naturally beautiful skin. Skin Cream+ is skin-identical, highly compatible and deeply effective.
Radiant skin due to increased moisture levels
Anti-aging with hyaluronic acid, vitamins A, C and much more
Smoother complexion through natural skin renewal processes’

This comes in different versions for dry, normal and oily skin, and I’ve used the one for normal skin since 2013. It’s a rather expensive, rather basic moisturizer, but! BUT!!! It never ever aggravates my skin. In fact, it’s so incredibly soothing that ‘ve used it whenever my skin is at its most sensitive and irritated, and the moisturizer will nurse it right back to health. It’s a holy grail and staple for me for exactly that reason. It’s incredibly well-formulated, and I doff my hat to Mr. Beyer Senior who created it.
