The Brand: Ultra Violette

Ultra Violette is an Australian brand launched in 2019 by two female founders (yay!) focusing on sunscreens. Their premise is a lineup of sunscreen that plays well with other skincare and makeup products, while being comfortable to wear and also has other skin benefiting ingredients.

As for sustainability, there isn’t any specific mention of it on their website and their products also didn’t have any features that reflect sustainability.

Description

If you want to take the lazy gal’s approach to SPF, Supreme is your MVP  – Moisturiser, Very-Good-Sun-Protection and Primer. A hydrating, high SPF formula with a clean scent, Supreme is our all-rounder that’s perfect for normal to dry skin, or anyone who doesn’t know which SPF is right for them. TLDR: just buy this one!

Ultra Violette Supreme Skin

Claim

  • Hydrating
  • No white cast
  • For all skin types
  • Plays well with makeup
  • Won’t outshine you at karaoke

All the claims made it a really tall order (except for karaoke, because it’s easy to outshine me at karaoke, lol.). I admit I have high expectation, especially because this sunscreen comes recommended by Labmuffin. So, I would like my skin to look and feel hydration with no sense of oiliness, while I could easily put makeup on top. Would that even be possible?

Ultra Violette Hydrating Facial Skinscreen Application

The Packaging

Ultra Violette Supreme Screen Packaging
Ultra Violette Supreme Screen Packaging

As always, Ultra Violette packaging looks very nice. The product comes out with a pump, which unfortunately you couldn’t control so well if you’re used to do the finger length application. I’ve read some sources saying you need five pumps with this product, so let’s prove that.

Just like on my IOPE UV Shield review, I’m taking my scale for 0.04 oz and my quarter teaspoon. It was short of five pumps to get to 0.004 oz.

From the picture, we can already see that the formula isn’t as dense as the IOPE UV Shield. It is a very pleasant, creamy gel-like texture that glides easily on the skin. It has a beige color instead of white, which might make it easier to blend on the skin.

After weighing it, I transferred it to the 1/4 teaspoon. It looks a little less full.

What I like about the packaging, the five pumps are pretty consistent in my case. The worse I can get is getting a bit more product than I should. With sunscreens, it’s better to put too much than too few!

Impressions of Ultra Violette Supreme Screen Hydrating Facial Skinscreen

On Application

It’s really easy to put on, easy to pile on the skin. No whitecast. What it still has is the feeling of oiliness that never really sinks in.

Ultra Violette SPF50+ Supreme Screen Hydrating Facial Skinscreen. No whitecast, easy to apply, oily after. Need matte foundie finish. #sunscreen

It is pretty consistent with their claim of “moisturizing” and “hydrating”, although in my case it always felt shiny like a light oil that stays on the skin

Face Routine

With a quarter teaspoon application, it only works if I just wear the Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum (my review here), wait a few minutes for it to sink in, then apply the sunscreen.

Even if the sunscreen doesn’t sink in, don’t blot it because it can lower the SPF on your skin.

Continuous Use

I usually have a few sunscreens to test, so I rarely wear the same sunscreen for days in a row. But before writing this blog post, I wear Ultra Violette Supreme Screen for a few days in a row. I definitely have to double cleanse it well, otherwise my skin is going to be in trouble the next day.

Makeup Application

It works well with foundations and makeup in general, but in my case I have to use a mattifying foundation afterwards, like Fenty Beauty Soft Matte Pro Filt’r Foundation or the Heliocare 360 Bronze Tinted Gel Oil-Free sunscreen

Piling

Mostly no piling, but sometimes it happens.

Feel on Skin

Light oily feeling on skin that never goes away. It’s not sticky, but it also never sinks in. It gives you the shiny look.

Scent

There is a light scent that reminds me of coconut.

Stings the Eyes / General Discomfort

No

Check List: Ultra Violette Supreme Screen Review

Ultra Violette Supreme Screen Review Checklist

Honestly, this checklist surprised me. But, it is true, this sunscreen only ticks two points!

Ultra Violette Supreme Screen Rating

Luckily, here they redeemed themselves. It’s very makeup friendly, and it has no white cast. It’s not my favorite texture and finish, but I can see this working for someone else. I’m happy to finish it, but I don’t plan to repurchase.

In the end, it’s just ok for me. Would I recommend it? If you don’t mind the price and you love hydrating sunscreens, this is good for you. Most likely, though, you could find a better one with a better price point.

Price and Availability

Available at Sephora US and AUS, SpaceNK and Cult Beauty.

It’s rather pricey: 39€ for 50ml.
