I hate writing gushing reviews. Gushing reviews always sound like you’ve lost your mind and turned into a YouTube clone that claims every damn thing they encounter is ‘amazing’ or ‘sooooooo good’. Please don’t come after me with pitchforks when I tell you that Fenty Beauty’s new cream blushes are amazing, and really, really good in the following Fenty Summertime Wine review.

Formula

Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Cream Blush

I’m not really a pro with makeup formulation, so I can just tell you that rather unsurprisingly this is made with a lot of different waxes and silicones, giving it an easily blendable and silky texture. Summertime Wine is, on my rather pale skin (MAC 15-20) a cool berry shade. I find it very versatile and buildable from a faint pinkish hue to full blown berry cheeks. It has a very, very faint shimmer, which adds to the glow it has going on.

Application

Fenty Summertime Wine review

So, here’s the thing with cream cheek products (as opposed to powder ones): they can be seriously annoying. Sometimes, the texture is so stiff that they’re impossible to blend because you’ll remove your base completely while doing so. Or, even worse, they’re so emollient that they’ll move around and stay sticky the whole time you’re wearing them. Or, my fave pet peeve: cream blushes that have completely vanished at the end of the day.

Now, picture my surprise when I realised that Fenty’s Cheeks Out Cream Blush is completely different.

First, it’s very forgiving: I’ve applied it with fingers and brushes, and it’s both easy to apply AND blend. Believe me, I tested it in difficult conditions: over powder, or together with powder highlighter and bronzing powder: it performs excellently every time. It gets very slightly more difficult (very slightly) when a lot of powder is involved, but then I’ll grab a ‘skunk’ brush to blend out the edges. Patchy? Not ever.

Fenty cream blushes worth it

My preferred method of application is with my (clean) fingers: I’ll tap three little dots along my cheekbone and tap gently with my finger pad to diffuse.

If you want to achieve a VERY light application, instead of blending with your fingertips, use a damp beautyblender. Instant diffused ‘watercolour’ effect.

Beware: I’m aware that Summertime Wine is one of the darkest shades, but it actually is possible to overapply. Ahem. I tested it. For science.

Second point of excellence: Summertime Wine stays put. The whole day. It’s also relatively touch-proof, because, yup, indeed, I wore it under a mask AND IT STAID PUT and didn’t leave any smudges inside my mask. On top of that, it feels silky smooth, and is as far away from sticky as possible.

Also, it imparts some kind of sorcerous natural dew to your cheeks. Honestly, this is the best cream cheek product I’ve ever encountered. Powder blushes can sometimes sit a bit unnaturally on your skin, but this doesn’t. Instead, it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Oh, and you can also wear it on your lips, where it looks like a matte, slightly transparent stain. It’s not my fave use for it, because somehow, it looses its glow and luminosity which it has on my cheeks.

Worth it?

Fenty Beauty Summertime Wine review

In short, Fenty’s Summertime Wine cream blush combines the advantages of powder products (non sticky, easy application), with the ones from cream products (glow, very natural look). I also like that the Cheeks Out Blushers only come with 3g of product and are housed in a very sturdy plastic compact (that actually wrecks my nails a bit when I open it), which will hopefully prevent them from drying out too quickly.

And now I’ll stop gushing. But honestly, it’s an excellent product.
