Finding a great beauty podcast is like finding a great sleeping mask. There are quite a lot of (similar) options out there, but depending on what you like, only a select few will be on your rotation list.

A little bit of context into why I chose these: I like to learn. A lot. I also like to walk. A lot. I also have a bit of motion sickness issue so I can’t read in a car/bus/crowded public transport. Listening to podcasts was just a natural way for me to maximize my time learning while getting the body movement I need. I listened to many on the topics of beauty, business, tech, and ted talks. With some I only liked a few episodes, and with some I look forward to listen to every week.

The Best Beauty Podcasts

In general, I like podcasts where I learned something new. A good story about an entrepreneurial journey, how a founder had the idea and fought their way to their successful (and failed) endeavors. A deeper insight into the beauty industry, the explanations behind the jargon and the lowdown on chemicals and the manufacturing process. Especially when the host and the interviewee are super candid in a way you couldn’t really get on the written page.

Here are my three favorite beauty podcasts that are in my rotation.

1. Breaking Beauty Podcast

This is a beauty podcast hosted by two fabulous Canadian beauty editors: Jill Dunn and Carlene Higgins. They always have a great time interviewing prominent figures in beauty, including Tiffany Masterson of Drunk Elephant and the late Brandon Truaxe of Deciem.

Best for: Getting the stories of beauty founders. Telling the story about what inspired founders and the making of a brand. It gives you insights and their thought process. Jill and Carlene will give you insider reports on the latest beauty news, trends, and innovations in beauty.

2. The Beauty Brains

My geeky self loves this one a lot. Their blog has been around for a while, but I swear the podcast is a way better medium for them. It is funny, very candid, and it might make you question your belief in the beauty industry. Can you actually tell if a more expensive product is better?

Hosted by Perry Romanowski and Randy Schueller, both cosmetic chemists, their point of view is scientific without fluff. They will tell you what they know about a certain component, and don’t mind to be proven wrong if you have proof (just like any scientist should be).

Listen to it if you want more knowledge in the chemistry of beauty products, and to have more tools in determining which one is fact or fiction. (While it’s totally fine to get a product just because you love them. We all do).

3. The Glossy Beauty Podcast

The Glossy Beauty Podcast

It’s (supposedly) about how technology is transforming the fashion, luxury and beauty industries with the people making change happen in the space. Used to be one channel, The Glossy Podcast, but since late last year, they gave the beauty podcast a new separate channel.

It is still on the same page as the blog, and I still do like to listen to both the Glossy Podcast and the Glossy Beauty. Both industries are closely connected, anyhow.

The Glossy Beauty Podcast has a very much magazine approach to interviews. It tends to be short (half an hour episodes), making it good podcasts to listen to for short trips.

Bonus

The Emma Guns Show

Emma Gunavardhana (aka Emma Guns) is such a great personality to listen to. She has great connections in the beauty industry, and her podcasts made you feel like you are eavesdropping on their insider conversations. I especially like her episode with Pixiwoo. It could be on my next list of podcasts to recommend, but I haven’t listened enough to be able to say I love the podcast series.
