Oh July, the height of summer months. Our beauty favorites depict the journeys we have, from bronzer (how to feel like you’re on vacation) to brows (how to look great for holiday snaps)! We also managed to choose products from veeery different price ranges – one is from the drugstore, while the other one is the epitome of luxury. Intrigued? Have a peek!

Astrid’s Favorite Beauty Product in July

I’m going to risk sounding like a broken record for kept telling you about the same product I love. I don’t mind though, because it is a very nice product to wear in summer and it’s still available in most places.

I didn’t travel outside the city this month, and yet it felt like I’m on a vacation (except I have to work work work). Perhaps it’s because Berlin gets to be the sunniest city in Germany this year (usually never happen) and my balcony is actually turning out to be green!

Chanel Les Beiges Harmonie Poudres Lumiere Belle Mine in Deep

Chanel Les Beiges Harmonie Poudres Lumiere Belle Mine Deep for Summer

At first, I thought this was just going to be a frivolous purchase. While it is still pricey, but to me it’s worth it. It’s the easiest blush / bronzer / healthy glow hack I can have for my skin. While I don’t think I could ever finish the whole pan, I see myself using it mostly the whole summer.

I love the combination of colors swirled together. It has a hint of sparkle, the orange that warms the skin, and the mix of darker and lighter browns to give dimension and depth. Unfortunately, it is not fragrance-free,  although the scent is gone quickly after you applied it to the skin. I use either the Chanel brush that comes with the compact or the MAC 168 Brush  (large angle contoured blush brush).

The full review of this product is here,  and you can still get it at many perfumeries and Chanel stores, for example, in Germany at Galeria Kaufhof here.

A dear friend gifted me with this product. The packaging and the story are really cute. A mini glass of red wine as your lip balm! Enriched with ingredients to help your lips hydrated! Plus a really cute splash of color on your lips! Hell yeah.

This is a staple next to my desk, one I can easily wear throughout the day! You can find it here.

Dorit’s favorite beauty product in July

NYX Micro brow pencil worth it?
NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Ash Brown.

Oh, the horror! This is finally the month when my favorite beauty product that I want to introduce to you – isn’t, in fact, my favorite product in this category. It is, instead, really handy in certain situations.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Ash Brown

I am a long-term lover of brow pomades. Usually, they hold up better than pencils or powders, and my brows are actually one part of me that’s surprisingly unfussy. I don’t have massive bald spots, and I don’t have to painstakingly draw single hairs on my forehead like a calligrapher. Instead, I go over my brows willy-nilly with a brush and some pomade (be they the actual color of my hair, or rainbow-colored), and call it a day. The only thing that I hate about pomades is that they come in glass pots, and are damn unwieldy to schlepp around, especially on vacation. Enter NYX’s Brow Pencil.

What is it?

NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Ash Brown
Like all brow products, swatches on the bare skin look horrendous.

It has been touted as a dupe to Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Brow Whiz, but I wouldn’t know, because (gaspshockhorror) this is actually my first brow pencil in maybe 10 years. It has a fine nib on the one side and a spoolie on the other. The pencil’s texture is neither too hard or too soft – it distributes color evenly and easily.

How to?

Fluffy brows how to
Not so bad, eh?

I first brush through my brows with the spoolie first, then go over sparse patches and try to get my brows to fall in the form I want them to. I then use the spoolie again, especially if I want to diffuse spots in which I was a bit heavy-handed. But, fear not – if you overdrew, just grab a q-tip and go over it – the product rubs clear off. If you want a bit more staying power, set it with a brow gel, because water- or sweat-proof this is not.

Why?

It’s lightweight, so slim it fits into every wash bag, no matter how small, and it’s perfect for a quick, but still defined eyebrow when you’re traveling. Brow gels are fine and dandy but lack in the definition department, and that’s what NYX’s Brow Pencil will give you. It also has (for me) that kind of casual look that I like when I’m traveling. Because even I can’t deny it: My beloved pomades can’t give me that natural look that the NYX Micro Brow Pencil can.

Where?

NYX Micro Brow Pencil, here. $10. Shade selection: 8 shades from blonde to black. Get it at every drugstore, for example here.
