Summer – time for base products that hold up well in all kinds of weather. While Astrid deals with the changeable Berlin weather (and the world cup!), I suffer from Shanghai’s heat and humidity. Nevertheless, we both found to great base products that’ll tide us nicely over the summer months. I found a new, underrated A-Beauty sunscreen and Astrid found herself loving an old foundation that has been slain on this blog before!

Dorit’s favourite June Beauty product

I’m always on the hunt for a great sunscreen, and here’s the second favourite of 2018: Skin79 waterproof sun gel SPF50+, PA++++ (the first favourite I found this year is canmake’s mermaid skin gel).

I bought it in Hongkong at Sasa, and if memory serves right, it was around $10. I always find it important to find not only a sunscreen that you really enjoy applying, but also one that’s not exorbitantly expensive, because we all know we have to use more than we usually do, and skimping ‘because it’s so expensive’ is not the way to go. Luckily, there’re a lot of great affordable sunscreens around.

Formula

This is a very pleasant, lightweight formula. It comes out of the bottle looking like a white lotion, but upon application, it turns into a weightless, colourless gel. Also, it spreads easily and sinks in moderately fast. It smells faintly flowery, which comes from the flower extracts in the formula, I guess. I use it under my makeup without any problems, even now that it has gotten hot and humid (Shanghai in summer is no joke).

Ingredients

Skin 79’s Waterproof sun gel has both chemical and physical sunscreen ingredients (see here). The chemical one is Homosalate, the physical one is Titanium Dioxide. The formula doesn’t contain alcohol. It does contains fragrance, but not the highly sensitizing ones like linalool or geraniol. Also, it contains some anti-oxidants (always welcome in sunscreen), it-ingredient of the year Centella asiatica that’s supposed to calm reactive skin, and some plant extracts like sunflower, avocado, and chamomile. My skin seems to like it, and it doesn’t burn when I accidentally apply it too close to my eye area.

Claims & Application

I haven’t tested its waterproof claim yet (reviews online seem skeptical). It’s rather sweat-proof, though. It is, according to claim, moisturizing, with a fresh feeling upon application. And that is exactly as I’d describe it! I’ve used it continuously lately and I’m thoroughly baffled why nobody else talks about it. It’s good!

Astrid’s favourite June Beauty product

Astrid's June Favorite among all things: IT Cosmetics CC Cream & Chanel Eclat Enigmatique
Astrid’s June Favorite among all things: IT Cosmetics CC Cream & Chanel Eclat Enigmatique Eyeshadow Palette

Three things for me in June this year: my birthday (reason to splurge), dry skin on my cheek that refused to go away in time for my dinner (oh the drama), and the FIFA World Cup (yes, crazy football fan here!). Added side note: yes I wrote this before Germany was ousted in the first round, yes I’m for the German team, yes I’m heartbroken, but hey in the end life does go on.

So, despite the many things I featured on the picture, the nail polishes I like a lot (those are Chanel 538 Gris Obscur, Chanel 671 Ecorce Sanguine, and Chanel 592 Giallo Napoli), the Chanel Eclat Enigmatique eye palette which I wear almost every day and already reviewed here. But the one I’m so thankful it exists in my arsenal this month? IT Cosmetics CC Cream.

Why the IT Cosmetics CC Cream in Tan

I like this foundation. It’s the all-in-one thing: moisturizer, anti-aging serum, concealer, foundation, and sunscreen. It’s on the full coverage side and the color match isn’t perfect for my summer tan, but for the fact that it makes my skin looks normal during the dry patch season? Priceless.

Here was how my skin looked like, can you see the redness on the cheek? It was not even the worse days!

That damn dry patches on my cheek!

While it’s probably best to leave the skin alone during the healing process, I thought some sunscreen and a bit of coverage wouldn’t hurt so much. As it turned out, this cc cream felt good on the skin, covers everything. And since I feel and look normal with it, I don’t try to touch my face.

You can’t see the patches! Win! So there it is my June favorite product. The best foundation to wear when your skin is problematic. I will keep this in my beauty arsenal, even when I’ve to apply some bronzer to add more color to it.

As a bonus, check out Dorit’s tutorial for making fun nail polish pattern supporting your football team. I supported Germany this time (while as you know at this point already out 🙁 ), but this tutorial will work with any team color, and it’s easy peasy even with my unprecise hands.
