A perfect toner for the winter weather, and how I spent my January (with a plea for doing things you’re not good at). On to my January best beauty finds!

I threw this sample-sized toner into my washbag when I went home for the holidays, and since then, I regret that I didn’t buy the full bottle.

What is it?

The Rice Toner is brand’s I’m From most sold product, and wants to deliver glow and refining skin texture. There’s a whole rice product line from the brand, including serum, moisturizer, mask and sunscreen.

What it does

After shaking vigorously to combine the water and emulsion layer, the toner feels watery, but milky. I wouldn’t call it oily, but you can feel immediately that this isn’t just a watery toner. It actually has around 78% rice extract, and my skin loves rice (case in point: cosrx overnight rice mask). Rice is supposed to brighten and even out dull skin. It’s also formulated to prevent water loss, and that’s likely why I like this so much during the winter weather.

It’s a great base for the skincare I layer over it, and leaves my skin ready to soak up the goodies from my serum and moisturizer.

Beating the January blues

pottery as a hobby

January is hard enough. That’s why I will only start either challenges or fun projects: challenges are easy to do short term, and don’t come with that much pressure as RESOLUTIONS. Projects are easier still: on my list is to upcycle an old handbag (instead of buying a new one) and selling some clothes on Vinted. Easily doable in an afternoon.

Another one that carried me through January was doing some pottery at home: I have been planning to make a tea pot for ages. But I didn’t have time or wasn’t in the mood to do something creative at the end of 2023. Then I realized that I stressed myself with that tea pot project: I’m not a really experienced potter, but wanted, of course, to make the perfect pot. Until I realized that wasn’t the point. I really love pottery: I like getting my hands muddy, and the whole building process speaks to me. And that’s the whole point – I love getting in the flow of building an object. It’s doesn’t have to be good, or perfect, as long as I enjoy making it.

And that’s my plea for you: you don’t have to be great at it to enjoy doing something. It can just be fun! So, dance really badly, write a poem, draw something, sing, or whatever. If you enjoy doing it, do not care about the outcome!

So excuse me, I’ll go and make a vase now. No matter how wonky it’ll end up being, I’ll enjoy making it tremendously.
