Yup, it’s gotten hot. No surprise that my faves feature a few sun protection items! My June best beauty finds, including a guilty pleasure.

‘Tis the season!

If I have the chance, I gladly opt for ANY UV-protection that is not a body lotion or spray when I have to spend time outside in summer. I’ll use UV-protection clothing, hats, and, yes, parasols. I don’t mind I have to carry it, because, honestly, how great is it to carry your shade around with you?!

It is, however, not for the faint-hearted. At least in the small city I’ve moved to – people will stare (and tiny persons will comment). I love mine, though, which I bought long ago in super-sunny Singapore (where, of course, no one batted an eye when you’re walking around with a parasol). There’re a lot of options online nowadays, if you’re not in Singapore right now. A quick visit on Amazon showed various options, and even German brand Knirps does them.

Of course, parasols have limits when it comes to UV-protection. I’ve used two drugstore options for times I ventured out for longer periods: Rossmann’s Sun Ozon kids anti-sand Sonnenspray and kids Sonnenschaum. While those will be unavailable to most of you not being in Germany, I want to share a secret: and that’s the words ‘anti sand’ (or sand resistant) on the packaging. That will yield a true dry touch finish, which I find essential in body sunscreens. Garnier does it, for example, and Vichy too. (Be aware that with both foam and spray options, you need A LOT for adequate protection. I spray in my hand, then apply.)

Tour de France

Each year in summer, I have a guilty pleasure, and that’s watching the Tour de France. It’s a three-week long bicycle race, and while I absolutely watch it for the drama of it (and there’s drama. So much drama!), I mainly watch it to see the castles and countryside of France. And oh, France is beautiful. (The organisers totally know that. They actually plan the route that way.) Anyways, it starts on July 1st, and you know where to find me in July – mentally in France.

If you want a taste of the whole thing before that: I binge-watched the Netflix documentary of last year’s tour over one weekend. It’s called ‘Unchained’, and I found it to be very gripping (although, having watched last year’s tour when it happened, I knew what happened). So, if you’re either a sports fan or want to dream about holidays in France – my tip for July!
