If you’re looking for a matte nude-toned lip balm, I’ve got a winner here. It’s matte but not drying, and it’s available in six different nude tones. So here is my NARS Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balm Whip Lash review.

I should be banned from buying lipsticks. I really do. But lately, I’m having lots of weak moments due to the pandemic stress. Shopping is my extra dopamine kick. And what’s better to obsess than a great-reviewed lipstick that looks to be right up my alley?

NARS Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balm

Sheer and matte. Lightweight and layerable. Lips strip down with six shades of soft matte perfection in a nude for every skin tone. One swipe deposits the perfect amount of diffused matte color with a sensorial feel. Bamboo Fibers impart a soft-focus effect, while a blend of Amino Acid Powder and Olive Oil Wax help condition. Because everyone likes to get nude.

Description from NARS Cosmetics

The NARS Soft Matte Lip Balm happens to go into all my buying tendency. It’s lightweight, matte, and moisturizing at the same time. The shades are nudes, and there are six shades to choose from, ranging from light to deep, with different undertones. Unfortunately, they are also limited edition.

The shades are Intimate (beige nude), Unrestricted (pink nude), Brief Encounter (neutral nude), Whip Lash (rusty nude), Touch Me (cinnamon nude), and Dangerous Affair (mocha nude).

NARS Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balm vs Afterglow Lip Balm Packaging

I bought Whip Lash, a rusty nude, blindly from the swatches I found online, even though there are no swatches for my skin tone, hoping it will be suitable for me.

And, very luckily, it does! (Scroll for swatches.)

The packaging is similar to the much loved NARS Afterglow (review), only this one didn’t have different colors for each shade, and it’s matte. I really like it for this price range, it felt luxurious and sturdy, and it looks good.

The Formula

It felt exactly like the description. The only other product that it reminds me of is DIOR Lip Glow in Matte. But, NARS Soft Matte Lip Balm is more moisturizing.

The other formula I’d like to compare it with is NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. It’s one of my favorite lipstick during the pandemic because it’s more transfer-proof and easy to reapply. The shade Whip Lash is almost a dupe to Walkyrie.

NARS Whip Lash and NARS Walkyrie, a dupe?
Is a dupe of NARS Whip Lash NARS Walkyrie?

They are quite similar. NARS Walkyrie is slightly redder, and it is also more intense. Consistency wise, the soft matte lip balm glides better than the velvet mattes, and you can also intensify the color by applying it several times.

I like both shades very much. It’s one of those that is a no-brainer to wear, and I hope it will be the end of my search for nude-toned matte lipstick. Except for the fact that the soft matte lip balms are limited edition. Then again, it will take me a long time to finish a lipstick, so I’m good for now.

NARS Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balm in Whip Lash Review

So, what is my verdict? I like this product a lot, and I fully recommend it if you’re looking for an easy to wear nudes. I recommend this even more if you are not really into lipsticks but want to look slightly more polished (for meetings or some other special occasions).

Have you tried it? Would you like to? Do tell!
