There’re beauty products that you want to get every. Last. Drop. Out. Of. I’m here to help and show you a LOT of hacks how to empty beauty products completely, because we all know that annoying packaging, either makeup or skincare, that prevents that last little drop of product from coming out.

A little serious disclaimer

get every drop out of your beauty products

It’s generally not a really good idea to mix or manipulate stuff you’re putting on your face, lips and near the eyes, so always proceed with caution. If you decant products, use clean tools.

Please don’t add stuff to products that you wear very near your eyes (no, don’t temper with mascara or eyeliner or concealer except with stuff that’s made for this, like Inglot’s Duraline).

Beware of products that DON’T come in pots. Products in pots/tubs always come with preservatives built into the formula BECAUSE it’s in a pot and prone to contamination by outside factors. Products in tubes etc. usually don’t need that, so if you decant those products, make sure to quickly use them up, only use them on yourself and try to minimise contamination risks.

That being said, let’s start with the fun!

Empty beauty products completely

Skincare

Tubes: Use a tube squeezer or cut the tube open and pull the larger part over the other. It’s amazing how much product still hides in it!

Dropper bottles: add a tiny bit of toner to your serums packaged in dropper or pump bottles and use up the remains in ONE application.

Everything that comes with a pump, like moisturisers: try to add a pump from a slightly larger bottle! (Thank you Karen for this ingenious idea!)

I usually cut plastic bottles open (after removing the pump, of course), and use either some kind of tool to scoop the remaining product out. You can use a professional scoop, or something like a popsicle stick, or a straw with a little insert cut into it.

Makeup

Product that sticks to the walls of tubes (mascara, lipgloss, cream/liquid eyeshadows): put the tube upright into a glass of warm to hot (but not boiling!) water. Most formulas will warm up, get looser and slide down the walls so that the applicator will reach again.

Or: Use a spatula after you’ve removed the plastic insert holding the opening closed around the applicator.

You can remove that black plastic insert from the opening with some tweezers, and then reach into the packaging to reach the dregs hiding on the bottom where the applicator can’t reach.

Dropper bottles of foundation, highlighter etc.: Scoop, scoop, scoop!

Lipstick: Even if you wore down your lipstick to a nub (not that I will anytime soon), you’d be surprised how much product is still in there! There’s still a lot hiding in the plastic insert. You can scoop that out easily, or apply with a lip brush.

Nailpolish

Nail Polish Thinner is your friend. Especially when you’ve nearly used up a bottle of polish, the dredges of the bottle tend to get thick and gloopy. Add a drop of Thinner and you’ll be good to go. Works also well with base and topcoat!
