All the beauty news you might have missed, and some deep thoughts. If that isn’t enough of an incentive for you, there’s also a very alluring GIF of Chris Hemsworth. Have a look!

Oops, it wasn’t Chris Hemsworth but Martin Freeman! I’m sneaky like this.

Beauty News

LOV and Sally Hansen leave German drugstore chain dm. (Glam & Shine)

Korean brand Huxley is now available at Douglas online.

Douglas opens a ‘DouglasPro’ shop in Hamburg that concentrates mainly on skincare.

Deciem has a counter at Berlin shopping heaven KaDeWe.

Astrid spotted it!

Sephora branches out in Germany: There’s now an online site and its first physical store (as opposed to the store in store system they used before) in a shopping mall near Frankfurt/Main.

Sephora.com unavailable

The downside: Sephora.com isn’t available in Germany anymore. Which sucks.

Lipstick news and trends: Pat McGrath launches a balm-like lipstick, and MAC tries to stay relevant with a new matte formula, called Powder Matte (launching in October).

Beauty Stories

September beauty news you need

If you’re in London, go to the ByTerry counter in Selfridges and mix your own eyeshadow. It looks like so much fun! (BritishBeautyBlogger)

Is Deciem coming around slowly? (Cosmetics Business)

Inspired by the Crazy Rich Asians movie? Glamour talked to their makeup artist about what’s behind the look of each character.

How indie skincare brand Stratia rose to internet-fame. (I LOVE their Liquid Gold moisturiser, guys. It’s so good!) (Refinery29)

‘Natural and clean’ beauty products?! It’s a marketing ploy, guys – especially in the US, where those claims aren’t properly regulated. I get a knee-jerk reaction out of this: I absolutely HATE how brands are exploiting especially women’s concerns about their health and well-being. (Vox)

On that note: same knee-jerk reaction when it comes to Gwyneth Paltrow’s brand GOOP that just exploits women’s fears, period. (Cult Beauty has just picked them up to sell on their side – major side eye there.) (CBC CA)

There’s a rise of older women in the beauty and fashion industry – but does that mean there’s also some change of perception in a business obsessed with youth? I couldn’t make heads or tails out of this op-ed, but there’s definitely some food for thought in there! (Racked)

Love, Life, and everything else

most relevant reads in September

Fairy tales project a misogynist and out-dated view of women and girls? Think again, and read The Mary Sue’s essay of the ever-evolving feminism of Cinderella.

I’m prowling many, many interior decorating sites right now, and here’s a good one: how Pinterest and Instagram trends lead to regrettable decisions… (I’m laying off the copper and brass accents, promise!!!) (Architechtural Digest)

Fenty, staying ever ahead of trends, did a show during New York Fashion show (Rihanna also does lingerie, in case you didn’t know) that was truly revolutionary: It was the anti-Victoria Secrets show in a sense that it didn’t cater to the male gaze. (TeenVogue)

Heartbreaking, part I: Everything you know about obesity is wrong. (Huffington Post)

Heartbreaking, part II: What do we owe her now? – 16-year-old Amber Wyatt was raped 12 years ago, and the long article depicts how her hometown reacted when she reported it. Both articles really stress for me how much we have to overcome our fear and practice compassion. (Washington Post)

Something that hit home: When your boss is bullying you. Verbal abuse is very common, and there’s often no happy ending for the women involved. I once had a boss like that, and I learned very, very late (too late) to stand up for myself. I was fired, like many women in this article, and can only wonder in hindsight why I didn’t quit in the first week I worked there. It took quite some time to pick myself up again. (Glamour)

Let’s end on a cheerful note: Hey, it’s Fall! Here’re some fun things to do when it’s raining! (Glamour)

Also cheerful, for me, a Marshmellow: Veronica Mars, the best show ever (right up there next to The West Wing) is coming back in 2019! (If you don’t know either show, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! It’s Fall! The best time to start a new series!) (Vulture)

Nothing much was going on here this month – I was moving (oh the insanity!) and Astrid was enjoying some much needed quality time with her family. We’ll be back in October with a vengeance!
