Traveling is great, but the true beauty junkie of course needs travel-appropriate beauty products! We’ll have some (maybe) astonishing products for you this month that accompanied us on our respective travels. While Dorit concentrates rather on storing said products, Astrid went for Chanel – which is never a bad thing. On to our magical March beauty favourites!

Dorit’s favourite beauty item in March

It’s all very well to just speak about beauty products, but don’t you think storing them is equally important? Especially when you’re traveling around? I want to share what I’m using for toting around all my beauty products when I travel. (And how it changed me from being that person that had various GWP vanity cases that I would cluelessly search on the hunt for cotton pads and mascara to a slightly more organised one.)

My well-traveled Samsonite toiletry kit.

As I’m a bit travel mad right now (I’ve never travelled that much in my whole life as in 2018 – but then, gotta make the most of the remaining time in China!). And mirroring that, my most used (and most loved) beauty item in March was my vanity case that I use for all my travels. It’s Samsonite’s X.Blade 0.3 Toiletry Kit, and usually I wouldn’t mention it on the blog, because it seems that Samsonite brought out a new version of it recently. BUT! You can still easily get my version on Amazon (and some other places), and the new version isn’t too shabby either.

Why?

Samsonite Vanity Case review
Super large compartment inside that fits everything. EVERYTHING!

This was actually given to my husband, but as someone who travels with a toothbrush, a moisturizer, deodorant, brush and perfume, this toiletry bag was much to big for him. (I got him a small one from Muji that’s perfect in exchange.) Samsonite says it holds 6 litres, and I guess it would halfway fill my carry-on. Its size, though, makes it perfect for longer journeys – while I still decant about everything I use for my skincare regime, you need a lot of product when you’re away for three weeks! (At least I do, ahem.) On shorter vacations, this doesn’t only hold my skin- and bodycare and the occasional nailpolish and mani items, but also a part of my makeup. Because it’s exceptionally sturdy, I like to use it for shatter-prone items like eyeshadows and powders.

What and how

Size comparison with my liquids bag from Sephora.

The Samsonite Toiletry Kit is very lightweight on it’s own, made from a similar softshell polyester material they use for their luggage. Although it’s softshell, it protects my beauty products admirably. It has a solid zipper, and a metallic hook that I love to use. I hang this on a hook in hotel bathrooms for quicker accessibility. It comes with a large open compartment and two zip pockets, and one smaller open pocket inside. The main compartment is massive, I also use a one-litre ziplock bag for my decanted skincare items that I store inside that. (You never know if something might leak…) Speaking of leaking, the bag is super easy to clean – just use a damp cloth.

While I used to travel with three or something smaller washbags in the past, I’m very happy that by now, everything is one place when I travel.

And from the back! I’d usually store thinner items, like sheetmasks, in there.

Measurements:  24.0 x 25.0 x 10.0 cm, around 40-50€. (amazon.de, Bagsdirect & Bagcraft, both UK)

If you’re looking for a similar one from Samsonite, have a look into the Cosmix and Karissa toiletry bags!

Astrid’s favourite beauty product in March

Why?

We were both really intrigued by Chanel’s Spring Collection. When I subsequently went to the new Chanel Beauty Boutique in Berlin, I splurged – and the Ombre Premiere in Verderame was one of my picks. I wrote about my haul here, and then I took it with me when I was traveling this month.

Vacation is usually when I tried out different shades and looks, but this particular shade, and how it stayed put on my lids despite the hot and humid weather of Indonesia, had me hooked and became my default go-to product.

The most used makeup in my travel case: Becca x Chrissy Teigen, Hourglass Vanish Foundation in Golden Tan, Tom Ford Lips & Boys in Hiro, Chanel Stylo Waterproof in Mare Chiaro, Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Kamikaze, Chanel Quad in Code Subtils, Chanel Verderame.

What and how?

Chanel Verderame: look at the dent I made from using it a lot ;).

Verderame (btw, that means verdigris in Italian, which seems correct – after all, the colour is that teal-green-grey!) is a gorgeous cream eyeshadow. It has a soft, nearly spongy consistency, and can be easily applied with a finger for a gorgeous wash of colour on the lids. It’s just so easy to apply! It also stayed put all day and looked completely sophisticated the whole time, which makes it the perfect eye product for a vacation. I added a hint of playfulness with Chanel’s Mare Chiaro green eye pencil from the same collection – a lighter green eyeliner, that made the rather smokey colour a bit more appropriate for the day.

Easy look with Chanel Verderame, Becca x Chrissy Teigen Palette, and Tom Ford Hiro on the lips!

Availability

Chanel’s Ombre Premiere in Verderame is part of the Neapolis Spring Collection, but on the US Chanel site, it looks like its now part of the permanent collection. It’s $36 here.
