A new blog series! Because sometimes, you realise that you reviewed a product in a not really well-balanced way. Here’s my Daily Brightening Serum long-term review.

First up, the Good Molecules Daily Brightening Serum I first reviewed in March. I maybe had one quarter of the bottle left when I wrote that.

We pride ourselves at twindly that we test products properly, and take our time before writing a review. We want you to really reap the benefits of a long-term test. Products can’t be properly judged by performance alone. I always feel that long-term benefits they might have should come into it, too.

Long-term skincare effects

Daily Brightening Serum long term review

Active ingredients in skincare take a heck of a long time to properly work. Only AHAs and Hyaluronic Acid are supposed to have an immediate effect, while for everything else, you can estimate everything between four to 12 (!) weeks. (More on The Klog.) It’s difficult to gauge an effect one product may have on skin. Especially if you’re like me and test new products regularly! I also use samples from time to time, and generally DON’T have the same skincare routine for 12 weeks.

What I’m saying is: I can’t be the only one demanding from skincare products visible effects after finishing one bottle? But still – you’d never go into a working retinol routine if you’d think like that. I try to incorporate that thinking in my approach to skincare (try is the operative word here).

Good Molecules Daily Brightening Serum: before

long term benefits of active skincare ingredients

While I liked the feel of the serum (it has a pleasant gel-like, non-sticky formula) and found it nicely hydrating, I wasn’t totally on board with the brightening claims. (Read the original review if you’re interested in battling hyperpigmentation.) The formula contains mainly arbutin and Liquorice Root Extract that won’t fade old hyperpigmentation marks, but will lessen the chance for new marks.

Daily Brightening Serum: What I’m thinking now

Daily Brightening Serum long term review

When I finally finished my bottle of Daily Brightening Serum, I started to actively miss it. I started to miss a hydrating serum for nights when I didn’t want to use a lot of actives, and I started to miss an easy shot of hyperpigmentation preventing ingredients in an uncomplicated formula.

If I was using a hydrating serum anyways – why not using one that would take into account my skin’s tendency of hyperpigmentation? This goes together with my current approach not to overwhelm my skin with actives and battle their side effects, but rather strengthen, protect and prevent.

I’ll definitely get a new bottle or two with my next Beautylish order. (I mean, it IS only $8!)
