Dior’s Fall Collection was the first that gave me a hunch that lip colours this Fall aren’t just the darker berry shades that usually crop up on makeup guides this time of the year. Here’s THE best lipstick colour for Fall!

Then it was Chanel (look on Sabrina). Then Armani’s new Lip Maestro shades (Temptalia). And then I was convinced that everybody was wearing an updated 90s Girl Lip this Fall (look at Who What Wear and Seventeen for a few inspo pics!), which I call this not quite taupe, totally wearable, plummy brown shade on everyone’s lips.

The beauty about this is that everyone can wear this one (adapt to your style and skintone, obviously!), and that it pairs wonderfully well with all kinds of eye makeup. Let’s just call it a play on the perfect nude, okay?

Oh, and if you say: ‘But how is that different from the thousands of Kat von D Lolita lookalikes?’ that we used to wear about four years ago – it is. While those colours used to have a decidedly cool undertone, these haven’t. See for yourselves!

Especially the sisters Hadid seem to like a taupe, plummy neutral (and 26 Mio. followers don’t seem to hate it?).

But also the recent Tommy Hilfiger x Zendaya and L’Oreal fashion shows chose a variation on that specific lip colour (absolutely adore the darker iteration on Soo Joo Park at L’Oreal).

MAC Love Me lipstick in Coffee and Cigs review
Coffee and chocolates… mhhhmmmmm!

After being super enamoured to Dior’s shade (see above, it’s a mix of their Rouge Graphist in Tag It/Write It), I found out that it sadly veers too yellow IRL for me. But when MAC released their new Love Me formula (whose formula I love and reviewed in depth here!), I heard rumours about the most unusual shade in the line-up of 24 colours: Coffee & Cigs. (MAC, that’s not a ‘cool’ name though. Cigarettes aren’t cool. They just kill you. Why not Coffee and Cookies? Coffee and Chocolate?!)

MAC’s website describes it as a ‘greyish brown’. I’d rather call it a soft, warm-toned plummy brown. The surprising purple undertone makes it a rather unique colour in my stash. I find it to be a very modern re-interpretation of a classic brown shade like Whirl.

The unusual neutral

At the moment, I pair it with absolutely every makeup look I wear (I love it so much!): it looks great paired with a nude eye, a red warm-toned look, great with taupe and purple looks and really modern paired with blue eyeshadow.

I suppose it would look great on all kinds of skintones but for the veeeeeery fair blondes. If you are, I’d opt for a cooler toned shade. But otherwise, it’s super versatile and I totally can see it with no-makeup looks, but also with a super smokey eye. In short, what’s not to love about this lovely neutral lip colour?!
