There are times in the week when all I wanted is to put on a lipstick that would instantly make me look polished. A big bonus would be if I could reapply on the go without a mirror. Lo and behold the Chanel Rouge Coco Flash in Moment!

I purchased Moment on a whim in Duty-Free, on transit after a 12-hour flight. While I was pretty sure did not look my best, I thought it made me look pretty good! It certainly gave my lips the shine and life it claimed to do plus it still looks great even without any makeup on.

Moment is a great nude-MLBB lip color with a super pretty casing.

Before I come to an all out review on that though, let me come to point out the generous sample of Rouge Coco Flash sent via mail by the Chanel store <3.

Samples of Rouge Coco Flash: Boy, Beat, Bohéme, Amour, and Ultime

It’s a set of five colors, ranging from neutral (Boy), orange/coral (Beat), pink (Bohéme), red (Amour & Ultime). I gave Boy to a friend because I am sure the color won’t work on me (you’ll see a swatch of Moment instead, which I assumed would be what Boy supposed to look like on lighter skin tones).

Rouge Coco Flash Review

Swatches of Chanel Rouge Coco Flash: Moment, Beat, Bohéme, Amour, and Ultime on medium dark warm skintone

Texture

They are all slightly moisturizing, with a texture that resembles a lip balm, and pigmented enough that you would see colors on your lips but it will let the color of your lips peek out a bit.

It has a good shine without the stickiness-caught in your hair of a lip gloss.

Wear

I find them very comfortable to wear, easy to apply even on dry lips, and the color lasts quite well (~ 3 hours) without eating/drinking. Pretty good for a lipstick of this type.

It’s one of those lipsticks you can wear without a mirror (dark colors at your own perils, of course).

Packaging

Ok, full disclosure, I am a sucker for lipsticks with pretty packaging. I absolutely love how they did the sparkly-semi transparent top which allowed the color of the lipstick shines through. Easy to see which color you have in it without having to open/reading the labels!

Color Selection

There are 29 colors in this collection. Chanel divided them into reds, oranges, pinks, purples, and neutrals. It has a good range with a good selection for different skintones. What it is not, however, is those bold statement lipstick colors (read: the colors might not seem exciting). But that was anyhow not expected from Chanel (sophisticated!) nor from this type of lipstick.

Pricing

This is where this bites. In Germany, it is the same price (37 Euros) as the other rouge coco lipsticks. Which feels a lot pricier for something that seemed to have fewer pigments and you would run out sooner because you’d need to reapply more often. OUCH!

Again, I love this color. It’s my go-to neutral lipstick, one that is easy to wear with or without any other makeup present.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash – Beat

Beat is my other favorite and one I plan to buy when I am done with the sample. Sustainability for me also means wearing what I already own, so I will use up the sample to the last bit!

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash – Boheme

I was drawn to Boheme because I was looking for a replacement for my soon-to-be-gone Antigone. It is the closest thing in this range to Antigone, but Antigone has slightly more purple and some subtle gold glitters.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Antigone

I still prefer Antigone’s color over Boheme. One can hope Chanel will release more colors with this line!

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Amour

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash in 91 – Amour

Amour is the most pigmented of my sample bunch. It’s a pinkish red (but way less pigmented than Rouge Coco Shine Monte Carlo). You can see this better in Dorit’s swatch here.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash in Amour mini review! Looks amazingly glossy and rich, but I don’t like the formula. If I have moisturised lips, it’s ok – not overly hydrating, but comfortable enough to wear until it fades. If I didn’t use lipbalm before and my lips are already dry, this is super uncomfortable to wear. It gives a pretty stain, wears off evenly and doesn’t survive a meal or even coffee. I had a sample, so I applied it from a little sachet with a brush, and not from the tube. As much as I love the look, I wouldn’t get any of the Rouge Flashs. ~ Dorit⠀ (Stay tuned for Astrid’s review on the blog soon!)⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #welovecoco #chanel #rougecocoflash #swatch #lipswatch #beautynews #instareview #makeupnews #makeuptalk #newin #makeupreview #makeupnews #chanelbeauty #chanelmakeup #highend #luxury #redlips #30plusblogs #twindly #beautycommunity #beautystartup #bblogger #discoverunder10k #lipstickjunkie

It’s nice but I always go for true pigmented red if I want to go for a red.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash – Ultime

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash in 68 – Ultime

Ultime is a brownish red. A nice, easy to wear red that would elevate the look to be more formal. Maybe will make me forget that my reds need to be pigmented. On the other hand, I am not reaching out for this color enough so it will be some time until I purchase it.

Rouge Coco Flash vs Rouge Coco Shine

Since Rouge Coco Flash seemed to be replacing the Rouge Coco Shine, I feel compelled to compare.

The Flash is more moisturizing, less fragranced, with prettier packaging. It does feel like an improvement from Rouge Coco Shine. Still, I am missing some colors I love from Rouge Coco Shine. So if you really a hardcore fan of a color in Rouge Coco Shine and it’s not on the new line, you might want to get it.

Verdict

Should You Buy It?

Yes, if you like a lipstick that glides on easy, you love the fancy packaging Chanel offers this time with it, and you don’t mind splurging for it.

Probably not, if you only want to buy from a sustainable brand. Chanel is still not one of them, and especially for things like lipsticks, you might find similar colors/textures like Ilia Beauty’s Tinted Lip Conditioner. (Yeah, I seemed to contradict myself since I actually bought mine, but I promise to use this one up!)

Final Say

It is a good lipstick! I reckon Moment might even land a holy grail status because I still reach for it a lot. It’s one to bring with you all day and you can reapply it easily.

Repurchase? Maybe, because: (1) it always takes me forever to finish a tube! (2) still hoping for a sustainable alternative.
