Hot chocolate, christmas markets, the scent of christmas trees – and a berry lip. I mean, doesn’t that scream winter?! (Also the hangover from one mulled wine too many, and the huge family row on Christmas, but we won’t mention that.)
So, berry lips. I love berry lipsticks, whatever formula they have – ultra glossy, metallic, matte – but Huda Beauty came out with a formula that peaked my interest a while ago, and I purchased her Demi Matte Cream Lipstick in Lady Boss (and had it engraved at Sephora, because the guys there had just gotten the engraving device and were playing around with it, hah!). Lady Boss is a wonderful berry in a rather weird formula – it goes on glossy, and then turns matte.
What Huda says
Saturated in pigment, the creamy texture glides on with an intense color release from the first swipe, creating a lacquer-like sheen which highlights and enhances the natural contours of your pout.
Demi Matte lipsticks are formulated with a hint of menthol, specially designed to deliver a temporary cooling effect and tingling sensation that leaves the lips looking visibly plumper.
Enriched with Maxi-lip™ that stimulates collagen and hydrates the lips throughout wear, Demi Matte sets to a satin finish that lasts for hours with extreme comfort, without dehydrating the lips.
My experience
So I bought this one in Fall, and in this case, we should take that into consideration, because back then, my lips weren’t that dry as they are now. Because, when you get winter-dry lips like my, that menthol in the formula? Ehhhhh – not exactly the best feeling in the world. But! Nothing a bit of balm or lip primer underneath won’t cure.
The Demi Mattes feel like some of my Korean lip stains – they go on rather glossy, and then turn into one hell of a pigmented stain. Like my Korean stains, go over them with a gloss or balm if you feel your lips are too dry. That will impact their staying power a bit, but otherwise, you’re good.
A word on the staying power – yeah, well. It’s not on par with a matte lipstick, and it will be destroyed by, say, a hot chocolate with cream, or a meal. It will also leave stains on glass rims and your significant other.
Buy or not?
If you’ve made it this far, you might be wondering about the sliiiiiightly negative direction this review has done. Well, what can I say – we all contain multitudes. I do enjoy Lady Boss. Huda’s shade selection is one of her strong points, and I love a lot of them on my skintone. Demi Matte has 15 to choose from, and I could easily pick 8 more (at least). They range from nude to very, very goth and vampy. So, I work around my slight texture issues, and enjoy the look.
