More than just this month’s scandals (although you’ll find a recap as well on the Deciem and Sunday Riley Drrrrramaz): beauty news, insights, and some lifestyle and travel feel-good reads (because we all need them).
Beauty News
Sephora Germany opens counter in Würzburg.
Dove is now peta-approved cruelty-free. (And Unilever wants to make all its brand cruelty-free, in fact!) (Glamour)
Dyson launches a new hairstyling gadget that will curl your hair (and make you a margarita at the same time – just kidding, but at this price, it totally should!). (Beauty Geeks)
Here’s a recap of Deciem’s shenanigans in the last month – including the closing of stores, vague implications, restraining orders and more. From time to time I see a post on Brandon Truaxe’s personal IG account, and I often find them disturbing – while I try to give him the benefit of doubt and see clearly some kind of mental illness, I also see frequently anti-semitic and racist slurs and troll-like behaviour. I’m happy that Lauder stepped it and the company lives on without him. (Vox)
Hey, remember Catrice’s super affordable foundation that’s a dupe for Fenty’s but came only in four shades? They now extended the line – and it’s online only. Baby steps…
IG account Estée Laundry is the one you must follow if you’re a beauty junkie and want to stay ahead of companies’ shady behaviour! More at Nylon & Fashion Magazine.
Skinfood is broke?!?! (Fanserviced)
Beauty Stories
Why are peel-off masks bad for your skin? Musicalhouses explains it. (Of Faces and Fingers)
Tracy gives you a run-down on the Sunday Riley affair. (Fanserviced) And for people wanting to know where to read independent and truthful reviews? Well, have a look at independent beauty blogs!
Did you think Bradley Cooper was sexily rugged on A Star is Born? Well, here’s how his makeup artist achieved the look. (Vulture)
The newest K-Beauty trend: a skincare diet. (Which I actually wrote about here in 2017, and can be a really good idea to calm your skin when it’s aggravated by trying out too many products at once.) (Allure)
Similar: many Korean women experience beauty as a chore, and try to break out of a lifestyle that hinders them of their own expression of beauty. (Next step, maybe? See how beauty can be a fun approach to experiencing different styles and forms of yourself.) (Guardian)
Life, love and everything else
Do you ever look at fashion styles, mags and ads and think – huh, that designer must hate women? I do, honestly, from time to time. This is why we need designers that truly respect and LIKE women, now more than ever. (Washington Post)
A few drugstores in Austria (dm) will now enable you to refill your cleansers and detergents in store so that you don’t have to buy plastic bottles again and again. I want that here in Germany as well!!! (Eat Smarter)
I found that so charming: two known ‘star declutterers’ come to Elle’s beauty closet to organise it. One of the few articles that offer good advice for a beauty junkie with more than ten lipsticks.
More than charming: The rise of the KitKat in Japan, and how new flavours are developed. (New York Times)
On the blog
I found one Fall essential that’s still in heavy rotation, compared cruelty-free blending brushes and Asian and Western skincare products. I also shared my review of an incredibly expensive cult product with you (sadly, it’s worth its 179$ price tag), while Astrid went to a talk about sustainability in beauty and shared what she learned. All the lipsticks I’ve loved before… And look, Christmas is coming, and with it, a plethora of Holiday collections. We have the run-down.
