A modern, trendy cream eyeshadow that’s as good as Armani’s Eye Tints. There, I said it. Wanna know more? Here’s the Stila Shimmer & Glow review (Cloud).

I’m easily overwhelmed, and thus it came to pass that I was standing in front of a Stila counter, swatching along merrily, planning to buy a Glitter & Glow Eye Shadow to try the formula… Aaaaand I bought not the Glitter, but Shimmer version, and didn’t even realise it. Doh. Anyways, I bought Cloud, have worn it a lot lately, and can testify that it is great, and can be worn on eyelids that aren’t that youthful anymore easily.

What is it?

Awefully pretty, isn’t it?

Let’s see what Stila says about it, ok?

“Glisten and gleam with Stila’s NEW Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow – rich, beautiful color with a high shimmer sheen, minus the glitter! The pearl-packed translucent base offers versatile wear.  Apply a sheer layer for day or an added layer for nighttime drama.  A truly unique formula – over 40% water gives a barely-there, refreshing feel and smooth color laydown.  The non-tacky, non-transfer, adhesive base means minimal fallout – no primer needed!”

This, in fact, ticked all my boxes. Non-tacky, non-transfer, minimal fallout? I’m IN! My shade, Cloud, is described as ‘shimmering lavender with gold pearl’, and that seems about right. It has a bit of a slight duochrome going on, which mostly makes the lavender/gold combo seem like a dusty mauve, a colour I heart.

Formula

I really, really love you, Cloud!

When I read about the formula, especially the 40% water claim, my ears perked up as well. Because, remember the Armani Eye Tint claims? Very similar. I wouldn’t call either formula liquid or watery, but rather creamy or maybe even moussey. Maybe Cloud is a bit thicker than any Armani tint I own. And, of course, even if they claim the Shimmer & Glow shadows are shimmery, not glittery, they’ve a lot more punch than most of the Armani tints I own. So yes, for me, Cloud is indeed glittery. But not in a bad way – I like it a lot.

Performance

Stila Cloud swatch
I mean, look at that! Although I admit that you see two extreme states of Cloud – directly applied from the tube, and one very, very blended. I’ll usually go for the happy middle ground.

I apply the Stila Shimmer & Glow in Cloud like I do with my Armani Eye Tints – I apply a stripe of shadow directly on the lid with the doe foot applicator, then blend it with a fluffy, synthetic brush. My fingers never seem to yield the desired, softly blended result that I want. Both shadows feel cold upon application. Stila Shimmer & Glow doesn’t give me much time to blend and diffuse, but boy, here comes its stellar formula into play. Because you can blend blend blend, and even if the shadow has set, there’s no fallout. None. Nada. I mean how awesome is that?! That alone makes it for a stellar product in my book. You can touch your lids all you want, and it will not budge. Yet it can be removed easily with a makeup remover.

Second reason I love it? It stays put, without any fallout whatsoever for a whole day. You know those shadows that you wrestled into place with a sticky base and whatnot, and after two hours you realise you have glitter particles all over your face? This is not one of them.

Really, look at that reflective swatch! You can also see a bit of the duochrome effect Cloud has.

And as for their claim that you don’t need an additional eye primer? I’m old, guys, and I always use eye primer. That’s just the way it is. (Hashtag getoffmylawn etc.)

Third reason I love it? I use Cloud on its own, as a wash of colour all over the lid. And. It. Looks. Awesome. No other shadows needed.

Tl, dr: Stila Shimmer & Glow review (Cloud)

Big love. Highly recommended. Does what they claim. They need more shades. (Not really enarmoured with their shade selection right now that is mainly nude and pink.) It’s really the younger sister of Armani’s Eye Tint range!

$24 for 4,5ml at Stila counters.
