Of course, both Astrid and I both wrote about our 2017 beauty favourites (here and here), but then, I would feel awkward when we’d just left the year without mentioning my favourites for December! And, at the end of the year, I’ve found some surprisingly fabulous ones.

Huda Beauty matte liquid lipstick in Trophy Wife

Huda Beauty matte liquid lipstick in Trophy Wife review
Huda Beauty Liquid Matte lipstick in Trophy Wife.

I’m usually not a fan of matte liquid lipsticks. I really, really want to like them, but then my lips are quite dry and sensitive, and usually, I’d reach for a moisturizing lipstick any day. I’ve found some liquid lipsticks I really like, though (Peripera’s Velvet Inks come to mind), but the traditional matte liquid ones? Nope. Until fate drew me towards the Huda Beauty lip set, which comes with a full-size lipliner in Trophy Wife, a mini liquid lipstick in Trophy Wife and a lip strobe in Shameless. (All three are great products. While the mini lip kit might be a bit difficult to find, all three products are permanent and available in full size at counters that stock Huda Beauty.)

Trophy Wife is a super pretty MLBB shade on me, a mauve rosewood colour that goes with anything and is very flattering. The formula of the liquid lipstick is awesome. It’s very liquid, dries down comfortable without making your lips look like shrivelled raisins and wears on and on and on. (Of course, as with all liquid lipsticks, Trophy Wife doesn’t survive a meal. It’s also not exactly kiss-proof.) And even I can wear it for a day without yearning for a whole tub of lip balm. And that’s something.

Estée Lauder Genuine Glow Priming Moisture Balm

EL Genuine Glow primer review
Genuine Glow Priming Moisture Balm.

It’s quite something that I finally, after one year of research and trying a lot of stuff, I found a primer I rather like. I hated The Ordinary’s High-Adherence Silicone Primer, Hylamide’s HA Blur broke me out, and becca’s First Light Priming Filter did nothing for me. Estée Lauder’s Genuine Glow Priming Moisture Balm is great for my winter skin right now. It does exactly the thing I wanted.

It prolonged the wear-time of my foundation, gave me a smoother look and also made sure that my skin didn’t feel neither oily nor dehydrated at the end of the day. How exactly it did that, though, is a complete mystery to me. It has a rather traditional silicone-y feel to it, but it also mildly hydrating. Don’t wear it like advertised, though – I use it like I would use any other primer, that is over my sunscreen. Then it works great. On its own, as a moisturizer, and consequently under sunscreen, it’s rubbish though. I don’t know how I’m going to like it in summer, but right now, it hits the spot.

essie Social Lights

And another one that rather surprised me! Essie coming out with a nail polish that’s quite unusual, wears well and fits well into seasonal makeup. Social Lights from the Ring in the Bling collection (Winter 2017) is a slate grey with bronze to copper shimmer. The formula and wear-time are excellent. Social Lights is very nearly a one-coater, and I wore it for about one week with minor tip-wear. I find it a great neutral for the season, and was super astonished to find it in the drugstore.

Any beauty resolutions for 2018?

Hm, I rather fancy a new haircolour! I’m eyeing a nice charcoal for some time now. Otherwise I’m happy with my skincare routine, but could break out of my makeup rut more often. What about you?
