Hakuhodo i-series review

Two weeks, two brushes: Hakuhodo i-series

Let’s carry on with our little “two weeks, two brushes” series, shall we? I got two new Hakuhodo brushes the last time I was in Singapore. Because… well, who can restrain themselves when standing in front of a Hakuhodo counter? Not me! This time, both brushes from the i-series and I had a somehow rocky start. Here’s my Hakuhodo i-series review: An in-depth look at both eyeshadow (i-127) and blush (i-110) brush from the synthetic Hakuhodo brush line.

February’s fabulous beauty favourites

From the K-Beauty shops of Seoul to the cinemas of Berlin, our lives seem to influence what we love each month. I fell headlong into the wonderful world of K-Beauty, while Astrid went full-on glam for Berlinale, the famous movie festival. READ MORE

MAC makeup must-haves

Five (odd and overlooked) MAC favourites!

I’ve a complicated relationship with MAC. Like for many beauty junkies, MAC was my gateway drug (back in the days oft he dinosaurs when it was still relatively cheap for a girl on a budget). Between then and now I got kind of exasperated with their limited editions that drop approximately every five minutes, mediocre products they released and great ones they discontinued. But I still enjoy some old and some new products very much, so much that they’ve become staples in my makeup drawer.READ MORE

Becca Opal vs MAC Double-Gleam

New in: Two hyped highlighters from Becca and Mac (with application tips)

It’s the story of my life that I’m inevitably drawn to pretty powders (even more so if they’re embossed or come in a pretty compact), while at the same time I’m the most boring highlighter user ever. I also prefer my highlighters to be on the subtle side. If I don’t consciously remind myself that I own approximately twenty, I’d wear MAC’s Lightscapade day in, day out. So why did I ever think that Becca Opal and MAC’s Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Double-Gleam would ever be for me?!READ MORE

best beauty products of 2016

The best and worst of 2016

While we all very likely will agree that 2016 was a pretty horrible year generally, I look at this year’s beauty experiences and guys, I don’t know. 2016 had some pretty fantastic products. Either new ones, or ones that weren’t new but new to me. There also were some pretty crap ones, too. Let’s have a look at the best beauty products of 2016, some un-favourites and the ones that were solidly meh.READ MORE

Like I wrote in the first instalment of this little series (find it here), every time I get new brushes I test them thoroughly with every product I can think of to see with which they’re able to perform well. For two weeks, I use them every day when I do my makeup and tell you all about it. This time, I tried and tested my first Hakuhodo brushes! Exciting!READ MORE

Let’s celebrate: The best beauty products of 2015

For me, 2015 was the year of more thoughtful decisions when it came to buying makeup. I think I finally passed the stage of the ooooh-shiny-must-have-it-all makeup addiction, especially when it came to limited editions, and focused a lot more on skincare. In conclusion, I became really picky and borderline cranky about all that stuff that companies churn out day in, day out. And then, once in a blue moon brands came out with really innovative, thought through, great products so that I didn’t loose my faith completely. Phew!READ MORE

Difficult eyeshadow formulas and how to conquer them (& a review of MAC’s Dazzleshadows)

Recently MAC came out with a new eyeshadow formula, the Dazzleshadows, which, well, dazzle. They’re full of little reflective glitters, and while that looks absolutely gorgeous in a swatch, when you apply it with your usual brush – the horror! Fallout all over your face. That got me thinking, because I guess we all have that eyeshadow graveyard full of gorgeous shadows that are a b***** to apply. Here’re our best application tips for challenging eyeshadow formulas and our best tools that will help you with that.READ MORE
