Indonesian liquid lipsticks are definitely on an upward trend. Ever since Dyah Rinni wrote about the liquid lipstick trend in Indonesia, I’ve been itching to try it out myself. Finally, I could try them out when my fellow Indonesian beauty addict came to visit Berlin and bring me some. One I bought per her recommendation, and the other three the courtesy of Deszell.
Impressions on Indonesian Liquid Lipsticks
So far I’ve only tried out three different brands: Urban Lips, Beauty Story, and Fernando Cosmetics. All in all, it looks promising and I honestly want to explore more!
Texture
Texture-wise, it varied. Some of them are actually the best liquid lipsticks I’ve ever tried. Some others fell short, and also not very consistent with the brand, so do check the reviews before you buy!
Price
I know I am a little out of touch with Indonesian price range because I haven’t lived there for a while, but compared with the other international brands, they are definitely on a more affordable range. The price range is between Rp 100.000 – Rp. 180.000 (around 6-12 € / $7-14).
Color
Here comes my pet peeve! I am Indonesian, my skin color is totally Indonesian (tan, NC42/44, neutral-warm), and oftentimes I felt marginalized when it comes to Indonesian beauty products for my skintone. With the liquid lipsticks, it is better thanks to the color range, but still, if you are of my skin tone or darker, DO NOT buy anything noted as “nude lipcolor for Indonesians”. Because it’s still mostly made for light to medium warm skintones.
Ok, now that I get those out of my chest, let’s go with the ones I have, shall we?
Urban Lips x Cathy Sharon in Sekar (The Best!)
Oh my, I LOVE this shade. I don’t usually love lipsticks that much anymore (because I just have too many of them, haha). But this one is a holy grail material. It is sold here for Rp 180.000 (around 12€ / $14).
It has the perfect texture, not too oily, not too watery, easy to spread on your lips. When the lipstick is set, it’s not sticky, doesn’t transfer, and yet it’s not drying your lips! Even better, it lasts forever (unless you eat something very oily) and fades nicely, so you can easily layer it if parts of it faded.
Urban Lips x Cathy Sharon in Sekar vs NYX Liquid Suede Metallic Matte in #38
I compared Urban Lips x Cathy Sharon in Sekar with the NYX Liquid Suede Metallic Matte in #38, because it’s both metallic.
The NYX #38 has larger chunks of glitters, and thicker texture feel. It’s not bad, but I won’t be reaching out for this color often.
Urban Lips x Cathy Sharon in Jetis
Since I’ve had such a great experience with Sekar, I had high hopes when trying out this one. It is also sold here for Rp 180.000 (around 12€ / $14). While the color is not necessarily the best fit for my skintone, I was determined to make it work.
Alas, the formula is really not great with this one. It is patchy, not really spreading evenly on the lips, and that combined with unforgiving color… I just couldn’t possibly wear it.
See how patchy and uneven this is? It’s also not possible to layer because it actually made it even patchier.
So I learned a lesson here to really pay attention to each color review of the brand. I am curious though if it’s actually the metallic vs matte one that makes the difference?
Urban Lips x Cathy Sharon in Jetis vs Peripera Ink Airy Velvet in 05 Elf Light Rose
As you see, Jetis a very cool pink color, it even makes the Peripera Elf Light Rose looks orange in comparison. The Peripera Ink Airy Velvet texture is very airy and felt very smooth, and yet neither of them could take layering very well (one must take off the previous color in order to reapply the lipstick).
Fernando Lip Cream in Russian Roulette
The color of this Fernando Lip Cream is absolutely gorgeous. It’s one of those reds that flatters most skintones, and definitely a color I can rock any day. You can find it here for Rp 150.000 (around 10€ / $12).
Unfortunately, the lipstick felt very waxy and although not drying, it felt very sticky on the lips.
Fernando Lip Cream in Russian Roulette vs Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Berlin
The feel of this liquid lipstick reminded me a lot of the Kat Von D one, so here is the comparison.
It is both opaque after the first swipe. The texture is both on the thicker side, with one big difference that the Fernando one stays sticky even after it’s dry.
Beauty Story Chiffon Matte in Choco Love (Another Win!)
This one is also a surprising win! The color is what I had wanted Huda Beauty Spice Girl to be. A reddish nude brown that’s easy to wear. The texture lived up to the name chiffon. It felt like putting some soft, whipped cream on my lips. You can find it here for Rp 108.000 (around 7€ / $10).
Which makes it also easy to blend and spread evenly, while it kept the moisture on the lips. Total WIN!
Beauty Story Chiffon Matte in Choco Love vs Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in Spice Girl
Here is the comparison swatch between these two colors
Both are quite lovely colors in the end. While Huda Beauty has a more watery texture while applied (therefore more difficult to control), both turned into a comfortable – non-drying – non-transferable matte.
So there you go, my early venture to Indonesian Liquid Lipstick world. Have you tried any? Do you have a favorite?
Have you tried Make Over Intense Matte Lip Cream? So many people raving about them, like they are the best for Indonesian Lip Cream products. And they come in 20 colors.
I haven’t! I should have a long chat with you soon! <3
