Time to put my best of 2017 ! This year the topic of diversity in beauty really gets the momentum and I love it! Much credit goes to Fenty Beauty. I know they are not the first (fact: MAC Studio Fix Plus has 52 shades), but Fenty Beauty is the first one who made this trend mainstream. As for me, I finally know how it feels when a face of a brand is someone who you can connect with, skin tone wise! (fun fact: I wear the same shade of Fenty Beauty foundation with Rihanna!)

This year is also when I started really caring for my skin. Not that I didn’t care before. I wear moisturizers and sunscreens, and I clean my face. I just never really put that much thought into it. That being said, I will never be the one to do a 10 step cleanse and moisture, as long as my skin doesn’t have dry patches and pimples, I am happy.

Without further ado, here are the products that defined 2017 for me.

Best of 2017 Skincare: Deciem and Clarins

The Ordinary EUK 134, Clarins Toning Lotion with Camomile, NIOD Voicemail Masque
Skincare Stars of 2017: The Ordinary EUK 134, Clarins Toning Lotion with Camomile, NIOD Voicemail Masque

It started when I discovered my gamechanger: Clarins Toning Lotion with Camomile. I mentioned it before on the Summer holy grail products here. Before this toner, I did not realize that my problem also lies in the residue after cleansing the skin, and this toner makes everything better! And therefore my journey to discovering skincare begins.

After that, I ventured more on the most hyped skincare brand of 2017: Deciem. I tried several items from The Ordinary, Hylamide, and NIOD line. Most notably, for my skin is The Ordinary EUK 134 0.1% it makes the skin super smooth, works better for me than the Drunk Elephant vitamin C serum. I also can’t live without The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil it’s so good for my skin for 1/3 of what these oils usually cost elsewhere. NIOD Voicemail Masque is the mask I love to use once / twice a week on nighttime (also on my summer holy grail products), and all of these combined equals happy skin! I got more NIOD products during the Deciem Black Friday sale, can’t wait to try it out next year!

Hair: Aesop Calming Shampoo & The Ordinary Marula Oil

Aesop Calming Shampoo and Nurturing Conditioner, The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil
Aesop Calming Shampoo and Nurturing Conditioner, The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil

Aesop Calming Shampoo is so good for calming the scalp. If you’ve sensitive scalp, try this one out. Pair it with the Nurturing Conditioner from the same brand. As for The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil, I originally got it for my skin, but it is a way better product for the hair IMO.

Face: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation and Hylamide HA Blur

Hylamide HA Blur, Maybelline Dream Cushion, Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Foundation in 330
Hylamide HA Blur, Maybelline Dream Cushion, Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation in 330

Hylamide HA Blur is the bomb for a primer. When it said it blurs the skin, it does. Doesn’t dry the skin, keeps makeup looking great all day. I love this one so much!

As for foundations, I’m very happy with the ones I got this year. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation in 330 always looks so good in pictures and in person. So on par with Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation, but only half the price!

Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation is a surprisingly good drugstore find. It’s definitely one to bring on quick trips, needing applications on the go. The color 48 is also close enough to my skin tone (90% match, slightly too light pink). Hoping for more color availability of this line in Germany!

Best of 2017 Eye Products

MAC Frostwinked Eyeshadow, NARS Narsissist Loaded Eyeshadow Palette, MAC Work It Out Mascara in Sweaty Betty, Fenty Beauty Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Unicorn and Rum
MAC Frostwinked Eyeshadow, NARS Narsissist Loaded Eyeshadow Palette, MAC Work It Out Mascara in Sweaty Betty, Fenty Beauty Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Unicorn and Rum

NARS Narsissist Loaded Eyeshadow Palette is still my go-to eyeshadow palette, one I love to bring on trips and I love the look I create with it. I’ve reviewed it earlier here. Along with it, I do like to wear MAC Frostwinked from the Snow Ball Collection, really nice for highlighting the eye area.

MAC Work It Out colored mascara is a trend I love this year, such an easy way to give a pop of color into your neutrals! Especially love the shade Sweaty Betty (if only it’s not a limited edition!).

Last but not least, a big shoutout for the Fenty Beauty Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Rum and Unicorn. Which I can use for the eyes and as highlighters. It’s the best multitasking product in the best color for me! Absolutely love.

Blush: Becca x Chrissy Teigen Palette and NARS Liquid Blush

Becca x Chrissy Teigen Palette & NARS Liquid Orgasm Blush
Becca x Chrissy Teigen Palette & NARS Liquid Orgasm Blush

The Becca palette is truly the best combination of blush/bronzer highlighter palette. It’s kinda big when you want to carry it, but in the end, it’s totally worth it for the glowy look (plus that big mirror)! I’ve reviewed the Becca x Chrissy Teigen palette here. NARS Liquid Blush in Orgasm is just my go-to for an easy, no-brainer blush application. Goes with everything, easy to apply, and it’s the color I had wished NARS Orgasm blush had been. Also wrote about it on my favorites here.

Best of 2017 Lipstick

MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson 1 & 2 Lipstick, Chanel Rouge Allure No. 4, Beauty Box x Cathy Sharon Liquid Lipstick in Sekar
MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson 1 & 2 Lipstick, Chanel Rouge Allure No. 4, UrbanLips x Cathy Sharon Liquid Lipstick in Sekar

It has been the year of the lipsticks for me. And while there are no big revelations, I’m just loving the new metallic trends that have been around. I also found my holy grail lipstick in an Indonesian brand: UrbanLips x Cathy Sharon in Sekar, wrote about the whole lot here. My favorite MAC Viva Glam release year! The MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson 1 and MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson 2. Also Chanel Rouge Allure No. 4 revived my love of red lipsticks again. And Urban Decay Epigram has my favorite packaging pattern.

What I’m Looking Forward to In 2018

I love the Pantone Color of the Year, Ultra Violet. So I’m expecting more from this color palette. And here I am wearing Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation in 330. It makes the skin looks better. And I’m wearing the Unicorn shade on my eyes. I totally need this color in my life!
