Aka why MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson 2 might be the best MAC Viva Glam special edition by far!
I’ve written my thoughts of the MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson and thoughts on role models here, and so I wanted to give another spin of my thoughts on MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson II review!
MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson 2
I’m probably biased but the promo pictures for MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson 2 looks very badass! I love Taraji, partially because of her role in Hidden Figure and that campaign picture makes me go, “HELL YEAH” and I want to embody that diva-ness!
The colors in this campaign are a coppery brown with gold pearl (lipstick) and a bronze with gold pearl (lipglass). Both are super gorgeous colors if you asked me.
Now, these colors might not be your typical definition of traditional lip colors. Even when I absolutely love them, I had a doubt I would actually wear them regularly.
I wrote this post two months after I got both Viva Glam lipstick and lipglass, in the hopes to give you an honest thought of what I think of them so far, and not just my first impression of the colors (which as I already say, GORGEOUS!).
So, how did the colors do so far?
It’s a Perfect I Don’t Give a F*ck Color
It is the perfect one to wear in the autumn time when the weather started to get greyer and darker. When I just want to be myself and don’t care about what other people think.
OK, the sun is shining on the picture, but most of that day was actually raining!
The end point is I absolutely love the lipstick (also the lipglass, it’s just that I’m still not much of a lipglass-wearing person). If it taught me anything, it’s these:
Trust Your Instincts
I have so much stuff in my collection. In the end, it’s the ones who make your heart sings are the ones I would wear often. These ones especially do. It doesn’t matter what you read in the magazines or articles of what color you should or should not wear, if it makes you happy, then wear it. Because your joy will shine through!
Play Your Strength
As someone who has a darker skintone, I learned not to trust a color good for “all skintones”. The only exception to that is a shade of red lipstick (more on this later). But you’ve got to play your strength. Go with what looks amazing for you, and rock it!
Keep Learning
Just because a red is great on you, doesn’t mean you have to wear red all the time. Trying a new take on this coppery bronze, it gives a great pop of color, that’s somewhat more modern looking. It’s a more polished look and edgier than your normal red lipsticks.
The Swatches
Here I compared it with the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb, and to be honest, the MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson Lipglass is the better color for my skintone. For more pictures of the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb, you can check them out here.
Best MAC Viva Glam Edition by Far
After the bold fuschia of the first edition, MAC Taraji P. Henson 2 is the total winner of the bronze goodness.
The lipstick is of a coppery metallic color, that is so gorgeously suitable for autumn/fall weather.
MAC Taraji P. Henson 2 lipstick is definitely not your traditional color. It’s one of those that makes a statement. It’s definitely one of the must-have colors for the medium dark to dark skin tones, I think it’s also beautiful on the lighter skin tones, as you can see from mackarrie’s blog.
The lipglass is this very pretty golden color, it’s a very easy color to wear and also very fitting for a top layer on any lipstick to give a pop. If you’re worried that the lipstick is too dark or too coppery for you, the lipglass is definitely a safer color to wear for most skintones.
And another picture of the lipglass that has a more close-up angle to the lips
Seriously, for both of the MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson collections, I’m happy to have all of them and actually really sad that MAC didn’t have it as a holiday collection.
It’s really smart for MAC to get this shade out in the fall/winter part of the Viva Glam Taraji part. When I picked these shades up back in September, I liked it, but it’s nothing that I would like to wear when the weather is warm and bright(ish). Whenever the weather gets cold though, this is the shade I would like to wear, just like the pink fuschia one in Spring/Summer.
My only wish? MAC would make this shade permanent so I can wear it without worrying I will run out of it someday.
