Astrid here, I just want to emphasize that because I’m the Trekkie in this blog. Naturally I’m drawn to the collection and would like to chime in on MAC Star Trek from a Trekkie and MU Addict POV.
We were not lucky enough to get press samples for this, nor get invited to the preview, so we had to get it the mere mortals way! (Which is always kinda stressful for MAC limited edition releases, hence I usually stay out of it… until now) As usual the MAC site notification for new products came up a bit late, so when I got the mail for the online release (a few days before store release), mostly everything on the site is already sold out. DOH! Then again, dramas are good for stories.
The MAC Star Trek Release Day
And at least I’m lucky to have time to come to the store on September 1st!
I arrived 20 minutes before the store opens and there was another lady already standing there queuing. Feeling slightly relieved, at least I’m not the only crazy ones, haha. I got slightly more nervous when suddenly three people came up behind me, and somehow I’ve a feeling they didn’t want to queue and just want to push their way in. Things got worse when just seconds before the store opens, a group of perhaps 15-20 teenagers arrived. OMG! Will we get the items we wanted?!?
The Makeup Addict Haul
You probably guessed that I would get all the adrenaline kick and got more things that I planned. Correct!
I could even make an enterprise out of it!
So loving the 50 years logo!
To Boldly Go, Where No Man Has Gone Before, Kling It On, Highly Illogical, Enterprise
The items I ended up getting:
- MAC Pressed Pigment in To Boldly Go (I can’t go wrong with this color, really)
- MAC Lustre Lipstick in Where No Man Has Gone Before (one must get this to pair with the pigment 😉 )
- MAC Frost Lipstick in Kling-It-On (Drawn to the dark purple)
- MAC Trip the Light Fantastic Powder in Highly Illogical (Seriously, the naming is really highly illogical. But it’s so pretty!)
- MAC Studio Nail Lacquer in Enterprise (My favorite ship, must I say more?)
MAC Star Trek Looks
Here we are! *drumrolls* the moment we’ve been waiting for! Lo and behold, I think these items surprised me in a very good way!
First, here is me bare-faced for reference. (Please no comment on you look good without makeup – because I know I am, thank you! Especially when I’ve enough sleep and in a good mood. I wear makeup because it’s fun!)
I used Bourjois City Radiance Foundation in 06 Golden Sun. It’s a bit too light on me at the moment, so I added KIKO Bronzer Powder 101 to even it out. For concealers I use NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Biscuit and KIKO Dark Circle Tone Eraser in 02 Orange.
Applied NARS Pro Prime Eyeshadow base and then the To Boldly Go all over the lids. I like the color, but I’m not sure I like all the glitters. Put on a winged black eyeliner with a gold accent (thank you Karen of Makeup and Beauty Blog for the inspiration!)
MAC Highly Illogical as a blush (it’s too dark for a highlighter, even for me) and here in the picture you can see how it looks on my cheek. I love it, kinda plummy, not too obvious, perfect when I wear heavier eye looks.
First I tried it out with MAC Where No Man Has Gone Before.
And then with Kling-It-On and Enterprise nail polish
Favorites and Reviews of MAC Star Trek
I am so in love with the MAC lipstick Where No Man Has Gone Before. OH MY GAWD! I was regretting not getting LLAP because I thought that’s the one with a lippie glow effect… but wrong, for my lip color and my skin tone, Where No Man Has Gone Before IS THE ONE.
If you’re an NC42-44, with pigmented lips like mine, get it now!
Highly Illogical is also just very pretty on me and on the pan. I think any of the powders would be very nice on, the choice is depending on your skin tone. I originally got it just because of how pretty it looks. Like a planet swirl.
To Boldly Go Pressed Pigment is a great color but too glittery for my preference. It’s just that I don’t wear that much glitter on my eyeshadow lately.
Kling-It-On Lipstick is alright, I kind of hoping I’d see more purple, but it came off more of a dark purple grey on me. Also it’s very glittery that you can see glitters all over your lips after you wiped it off (I don’t mind so much for the lippie though).
Enterprise Nailpolish is a good silver nail polish. Nothing super special here. Nice metallic color, dry evenly, if you haven’t got any silver ones and you’re a star trek fan, it’s worth getting!
There you go! Hope you enjoyed the review! Are you getting anything? Is my write ups made you want something?
PS: here’s another picture of me in a Star Trek uniform with Dom, my trekkie buddy!
Where No Man Has Gone Before Lipstick is surely looking good on you! 🙂
Thanks Dee! I never thought I’d get so excited over a MAC lipstick again 🙂
