May – finally it got warmer, there was some sun to enjoy and some new products made it to the top of our favourites lists, while some old ones got some new love! Featuring both Astrid’s and my May beauty favourites from skincare to makeup (and everything is permanent if you’re inclined to have a peak at our faves!).

Dorit’s beauty favourites

I had an exciting month with the arrival of my first ColourPop order and a short trip to Singapore. And it’s no coincidence that two of my favourites are closely connected to both events!

Singapore – there was nothing I didn’t love about the city. Oh, wait – there was one thing: the heat and humidity made my makeup melt from my face in three minutes flat. Cue my visit to Asia’s biggest Sephora at ION Orchard and the well-known ‘Aisle of Doom’ in front of the cashier desks. You know, where they have all the mini sizes? I saw Urban Decay’s all nighter setting spray, grabbed it and tried it immediately. I had tried it formerly for weddings and such, but wasn’t really convinced that it made my makeup last longer, but in heat and humidity? That stuff was heaven-sent and it WORKED! No more makeup melting off my face. I was a happy bunny.

May beauty favourites: swatches!
May beauty favourites: swatches! f.l.t.r.: MAC Faintly Fabulous all colours mixed, single quadrants, and ColourPop Lumière

The most worn makeup item from my ColourPop order was definitely their Lippie Stix in Lumière. On me, it’s a mauvy MLBB shade. The matte texture is comfortable to wear and I’ve worn it a lot with my purple and taupe eye looks. Lasting power on my lips is good (although it definitely hasn’t the longest staying power of my matte lipsticks) and I feel the colour filled a hole in my (extensive) lipstick collection. Nothing bad to say about this one.

Then I got my first MAC Mineralize Skinfinish since – I feel it’s been years! Every MUA pushed Otherearthly on me, but I’m really happy that I stayed strong and didn’t get it. I’m picky with my highlighters, and most MSFs (like Otherearthly) are to sheeny shiny for my taste. You don’t need to see my highlighter from Outer Space, ykwim? Anyways, I got Faintly Fabulous, and I love it for that kind of natural makeup look I’ve been doing a lot lately. It’s perfect for fair-skinned ladies who like a natural sheen that doesn’t lean silvery or gold. It just melts into my skin. Best highlighter from MAC in ages (it’s also supposed to be permanent! Yay!).

Astrid’s May beauty favourites

While the seasons change in Berlin, the weather is getting warmer and warmer and my skintone is getting deeper. Plus, it’s networking time, which means things are getting busier and busier, and THAT means I do quickie 5-minute looks all the time. Cue looks with the following products that make me look fresh and polished in just a few minutes!

May beauty favourites
Astrid’s May beauty favourites – Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Mirage, Nars Translucent Setting Powder Pressed and YSL Kiss & Blush in Orange Fougeux.

Dorit told me for years that I had to get the Nars Light Reflecting Powder, and when I sneakily ordered some items from Nars’ Under Cover summer edition, I threw it in my basket as well. It’s a lovely setting powder that not only sets my foundation, but also manages not to leave a white cast on my medium dark skin. It truly stays translucent, and that’s awesome.

The YSL Kiss & Blush in Orange Fougeux comes from my stash and it has been my go-to product for quite a while. It ticks all the boxes – bright, summery orange? Check. Matte? Check. Non-drying? Check. It also makes a great blush that goes rather powdery after application and is so easy and quick to apply! Multitasking ftw!

Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Mirage is one of those great one-sweep wonders that looks quite complex on the eye even though it’s just an easy swipe across the lids. It’s a shimmery bronze that adds instant sophistication to every look and also has excellent staying power. What’s not to love?!
