I’ve already told you that I did a sneaky purchase at Douglas in my last blogpost, and I also told you what it was. I went to Douglas for a little pick-me-up and had the YSL nail polish in Peace Green (from their Boho Stones collection) in my basket already when I passed the Chanel counter and saw the Sunkiss Ribbon Blush from LA Sunrise. It was love at first sight.

Now that I’ve tested them both a few times, I’ve have some swatches and observations for you.

Chanel Sunkiss Ribbon blush (LA Sunrise collection) – yes, I swatched it before I took the pictures!

Ok, let’s get this out of the way – it’s awfully pretty, and would tempt nearly every makeup enthusiast just with that. It’s also not cheap (57€/70$) and sells like hot cakes nevertheless. You’ll get a whopping 11g/ 0,38oz. of product, though. If your skin or nose is sensitive, skip – it’s very fragranced. I’m happy to report that – although I do enjoy the fragrance – the scent doesn’t last long on your skin when you apply the blush.

The powder is quite soft and drags up a bit of dust if you really go to town with your brush. That also means that the pretty embossing will fade quite soon. *sadface* On the plus side that also means that the colour payoff is very good and the powder feels very silky and smooth.

The best application method is to swirl your brush through all colours. Some individual colour squares are tiny, and you can’t really pick up single colours easily with a blush brush apart from maybe the soft pink and bronze colours. If I do mix all the colours, the end result is a very, very pretty warm pink with a very light shimmer. It wears well over foundation and lasts the whole day – I applied it around 10am and took it off at 11pm and it was right there, not fading at all. I apply it with either a fluffy duo-fibre brush like the MAC 197 or the slanted 163 and like both methods. It also comes with a small brush in a pouch – not completely useless, because it’s reasonably soft, but I’d always go for other brushes, and I don’t apply blush on the go at all, so for me it’s a bit pointless that it’s included.

For comparison swatches I took out some of my older limited edition products and some permanent ones, namely Clinique Cheek Pop in berry pop (much deeper), Max Factor Nude Mauve (much much lighter, it looks really nude in comparison, which it isn’t when you wear it), Blush Horizon de Chanel (much cooler and more shimmery), Chanel Joues Contraste 72 Rose Initiale (warmer, lighter) and Guerlain Madame Rougit Blush 4 Couleurs (colour-wise, quite similar but a smidgen more pink, but without any shimmer, and without the great quality the Sunkiss Ribbon Blush has – this one is quite hard and colour payoff not quite there). I especially thought that the Horizon blush would be a possible dupe and I’m very happy that it isn’t!

All in all, I can only recommend the Chanel Sunkiss Ribbon – a very easy to wear, versatile blush that suits a lot of skintones!

There wasn’t really any doubt that I’d get this. I love mint nail polishes, I love nail polishes with a twist, I love shimmer. Usually I buy indie polishes exclusively because of all the points listed, but Peace Green ticked all the boxes and didn’t disappoint. It’s a light, greenish mint (or minty light green) with hidden shimmer that is a bit duochrome and changes from pink to gold. It’s very very very pretty.

Application is very easy – the polish is neither too thick nor too thin and flows nicely on the nail. The brush is similar to the wider Essie and essence brushes, with rounded edges, and gave me no problems at all. I applied three layers, but for daily wear you’d easily get away with just two. Dry time is pretty normal – meaning you shouldn’t try to open a can of soda after half an hour!

I wore it for three days (which is quite a long time for me, I usually change my polish more often) over basecoat (Essie help me grow) and with a topcoat (essence the gel nail polish top coat). I can’t really comment on how good or bad that is – I never choose nail polish based on longevity, and, as mentioned above, I usually wear polish for about two days. I can say, though, that I was away on a weekend getaway during that time, and trips, including handling luggage, are always quite hard on my manicures. All in all I’ve the feeling that wear-time is good.

Comparison time! The most similar to Peace Green in Emily de Molly’s Copper Patina (swatch), although it’s darker, more teal, and generally duskier and more muted. Pretty Serious The Dragon’s Curse (swatch), another indie polish, is greener and the shimmer isn’t duochrome but plain gold. I only own some creme shades that I thought would be close, but weren’t. Closest in colour is definitely Mint Candy Apply by Essie. China Glaze For Audrey is darker and greener, and Kiko 389 is bluer and more neon.

I got a lot of compliments when I wore Peace Green, and I’ve to say, I love it! It’s 23€/27$/19£ and quickly selling out. Get it while you can!
