The articles and blogposts that stood out to me in December. Selfies, Japanese beauty, beating jetlag and more! (I’m sparing you the end-of-the-year posts, but if you want to have a look at what 2016 has in store, look at our blogpost about the new Color of the year here. To see what twindly has in store for you – and there will be a lot of very exciting things – I can’t urge you enough to sign up on our newsletter!)

Beauty

The selfie. Love it or hate it, it’s become a cultural phenomenon. If you’ve some time to spare, read this article and start to look at it differently (at least I did).

British Beauty Blogger attended a Japanese fair in London and met Minori, whose face is her art. Totally different from ‘makeup’ and ‘beauty’ as we understand it, but absolutely fascinating. Read her article here.

The US House of Representatives has passed a bill that bans microbeads in cosmetics. If you want to know why microbeads are bad, head over to Into the Gloss (older article from when the bill wasn’t approved yet).

Speaking of anti-aging, I was switching some skincare products (different acids, more vitamin c, more retinol), and wanted to read up on Retinol again. My main resources: Paula’s Choice (in English, here) and Konsumkaiser (in German, here).

And, of course, a DIY: if you need some relaxation time after the holidays and before the new year, what about making your own bath melts?

Life, love and everything else

I’ve a few long flights coming up, and was very happy when I found this article telling me how not to become a jet-lagged zombie: read it here.

Ask a phycisist to speak at your funeral. Which is not as bleak as it sounds, and is more about love than death.

Zosia Mamet on success. An article a friend send me early this year, and I kept it in an open tab on my phone to come back to again and again. Because I think it’s important to re-think again and again what success means to YOU, and not to be swayed by society and your surroundings. Dream big or dream small, no matter – what matters is that it is your dream.

I know nothing about Erika, who wrote this article called Fuck You, Yoga (all you yoga lovers can read it too, because yoga isn’t really what it’s about), but I think I love her. Go and read it (strong language warning!), because it’s a perfect end-of-year read. Pat yourself on the back and think back on all the instances when you just showed up, and give yourself some credit for that. You did good!!!

And if you still look at 2016 with some trepidation, your day sucks and you want to go back to bed now, don’t worry – let’s press this button and make everything ok!
