I’m going to Iceland quite soon and thought I’d show you what I’m going to take with me and what helps me to determine what to take. Of course, I’ll apply everything I mentioned in the first part (it’s here, btw), but then we at twindly headquarters came up with a super handy downloadable and printable packing list you’ll find below! So that’s helping me a lot.

Of course, the destination of my short trip featured heavily into my decision what to pack. I’m going to Iceland for five days, and while I assume that there’ll be dinner at a nice restaurant waiting for me there, this trip isn’t one where I’ll go out to a lot of fancy places or clubs. Instead, there’ll be a lot of outdoor activities in the snow.

Regarding makeup, that means I pack really light. Starting with my foundation, I chose Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in their lightest colour – it’s a good match for me, and I really like the light and glowy formula it profides. I can’t go anywhere without a good concealer – this too is from Bourjois and I use it both on dark circles and blemishes. It profides a good coverage and isn’t cakey. I use my faux beauty blender by Yves Rocher for both foundation and concealer. For brows, I’m using the Maybelline Brow Gel at the moment. I don’t have any problems with the brush and it gives a bit of definition to my brows and holds unruly hairs in place. My mascara is waterproof – I don’t want black streaks running down my cheeks when I’m caught in snow or rain! I really like L’Oreal’s Miss Manga – it gives me both volume and a bit of length and I brought it on vacations before – this one doesn’t budge even when I was in the pool the whole day!

Of course I’m taking a mini of my favourite eyeshadow primer, the famous Urban Decay Primer Potion. I don’t even bother to use eyeshadow without it as a base – my lids are quite oily and without UDPP everything creases on me. I’m taking two eyeshadows that I can easily wear on their own, because their complexity makes it look that you actually bothered to use much more shades on your look. One is L’Oreal Infallible in Bronzed Taupe, which is just what it says, brown taupe, and the much lighter Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Copper. This is not only a close dupe for the much more expensive Tom Ford Platinum, but also is a perfect nude-ish shade with very pretty shimmers. I plan to wear it during the days with a simple brown liner (Lord it up pearlglide liner by Mac) and the Glamorous eye pencil in 409 by kiko cosmetics, a great petrol blue, and jazz it up for those evenings I’ll want to look a bit more made up with a winged black liner (Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Liquid Eyeliner) and red lips (Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Red Ego).

I mentioned the Envy lipsticks in my favourites of 2014 already, and there’s a reason I choose them for the trip: They have great staying power in a satin formula that looks very polished but isn’t drying at all. Which is great because I truly expect my skin to scream for moisture in the cold and the wind! Because of that, I chose two of the most moisturizing lip colours I own to wear during the day: Mac Huggable Lipcolour in Out for Passion which was a LE formula that I won’t stop demanding to be made again and Mac’s Cremesheen Glass in Seeking Adoration which was a LE shade, but you can find similar Cremesheen Glasses in their regular lineup.

For cheeks, I’ll be again going with cream products due to there moisturizing properties. As a blush (but it can also double as a lip colour if I feel that three colours aren’t enough) I chose Mac’s Casual Colour in Keep it Casual. Again, LE, but the Casual Colours are available right now in different colours in Mac’s Red Red Red collection which came out at the beginning of February. As a highlighter I’m taking a mini by Skin79 BB Cream in Pearl. It’s called a BB cream, but due to a high pearl factor I’m using it as a cream highlighter than a base.

Brushes are easy, because I can apply most of my products with either the beauty blender or my fingers. I’m taking a big powder brush for my finishing powder (Nars Illuminating Setting Powder), an eyeshadow blender brush, a smudger brush for eyeliner and a fine liner brush that I use to spot conceal.

I’ll also take a package of Miss Sophie’s nail wraps to test them – if they truly survive all five days in Iceland, then they’ll take the crown of all other nail wraps!

I’d never take a bottle of perfume on my trips – just imagine the content of your bag if it’d break! Therefore, I’m collecting all the samples I like during the year and take always some with me. This time, they’re some classics: Guerlain Shalimar for nights out, Chanel 1932 and Hermès Voyage for days. The Chanel feels a bit more cosier than the Hermès, so I can choose according to my mood.

For skincare I’ll decant, decant, and decant some more (and always use mini sizes if they’re available). Like with makeup, I chose more moisturizing formulas when I packed my products, like a serum with a high amount of hyaluronic acid in it (Bioderma Hydrabio Serum), plus a good oil to pamper my skin at night (Pai age confidence facial oil), both I’ve yet to decant. Likewise, I’ll cleanse my skin with a gentle micellar water (Bioderma again) and cleansing oil (Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil from The Body Shop). For my waterproof eye makeup I take a sample of The Body Shop Cleansing Balm. While they don’t advertise it as such, I already tried it and know that it’ll remove waterproof mascara.

My moisturizers for day and night are philosophy help me spf and Beyer & Söhne Hautcreme+. You’ll maybe ask yourself why there’s a big tube of philosophy while it should’ve been easy to decant as well. This moisturizer has retinol in it, and I don’t want to decant it in order not to destroy the active ingredients. Light and air are bad for those, so I wouldn’t really advocate to decant products with ingredients that aren’t stable. I’ll use up some of the various eye cream sample sachets on the trip – the Biotherm, for example, is an old companion I still come back to from time to time, even though I’m using different products right now.

I’ll also take the richest hand cream I know (rituals Ginkgo’s Secret) with me, and am hoping that the Peter Thomas Roth shower products the hotel offers are nice. I’ll have my hair in a pony tail or bun most of the time due to the wind, so my styling mousse for a bit of volume will suffice.

And this is my complete travel kit for five days in Iceland! I really have to say that I’m very happy about the travel list Astrid and I came up with. It’s just so handy to check when you’re packing for a trip, and you can either print out one version you can refer to again and again and again, or print out a new one for each of your travels (beach? City trip? Three weeks’ cruise? Weekend getaway?), you can stow it away with your bag and just check everything when you’re packing your stuff literally just before you’re leaving so you won’t forget anything. Yay!
