It’s weekend, it’s Valentine’s day, it’s still Berlinale time. Yup, I’m also a movie junkie. It’s kind of my 2 hours weekly escapism, to the world of others, to the different type of makeup the characters wear (please tell me I’m not the only one doing this!). Berlinale is one of the biggest movie festival (in terms of #of film, theater, and audience) in the world. This year, I’m going to 16 screenings (see, I’m an addict). It’s been great and it’s quite a mix of films. My highlight so far: Out of Nature (quirky story about a runaway guy) and The Beat Beneath My Feet (wonderfully made teenage movie with great music and Luke Perry). Another movie I’m looking forward to seeing this weekend: Cinderella! We get to see it a month before the release date ;).

Well, enough with the movie geekerie. One fun thing to do as a makeup addict at Berlinale is the makeup booth by L’Oreal. L’Oreal is one of the major sponsors of Berlinale, and they usually have special offers and freebies to hand out to the audience. Their makeover/makeup booth is right smack in Postdamer Platz.

So, not only you get a makeover, but you get to have it in the middle of buzzing Potsdamerplatz with the rare view of the surrounding from above! That in itself should make a nice experience. Talking about feeling like a movie star!

Here goes..

Before makeover

The process is quite simple. You’d need to register for a 30 minutes makeup slot, it’s completely free. If you’re lucky, you could get one right away! Otherwise I noticed some people used this opportunity for having a really nice makeup for a special evening (dinner + movie, anyone?) and booked the appointments for later in the afternoon. Also it would be perfect for a valentine treat!

I decided to go right away (at 12:30), but I wanted to have a special evening look. Partially because I had a date that evening, but I’m also more curious for evening makeovers and whether I could pass for a movie star afterwards ;).

My makeup artist was Anja Werner and she was really good! Very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable with the products she is using! She talked me through all the products she is using, carefully finding a suitable color for my skintone, blending two foundation shades (D7 and W7 in L’Oreal Perfect Match) and also took the extra care to apply them.

On the face, first she used the L’Oreal BB Cream, then carefully applying the foundation mostly on the more problematic parts of my skin – middle part of my face and less on the other side. I tell you some MU artists didn’t really bother on doing this! She used some concealer, Perfect Match 5, for hiding my startup-founder-lack-of-sleep under eye circle.

The interesting new product she introduced to me is the eyebrow gel. I have rather sparse eyebrow, so this might be a tiny touch to make them more naturally visible :).

Then she asked me of my outfit color, but I said I’d wear black so she could use any color for my eyes. She decided to go for a burgundy-gold combination with a gel eyeliner and Mega Volume Collagen 24H mascara. The mascara could make my lashes looks like false lashes… it felt heavy but I guess it’s very good for special occasions to make my eyes pop.

Last but not least, I’m in love with the lipstick! It’s the new L’Oreal Pure Red collection Freida Pinto. It’s an usual “pure red” as it’s leaning towards pink, as you can see her from the L’Oreal promo pics.

I love what Anja did. It’s one of the best makeover I had. She respected my skintone and face features, picked the right colors to enhance everything. Tada!

After the makeover, you actually get a goodie bag from L’Oreal, which is a nice surprise! Inside there’s a L’Oreal False Lash Schmetterling mascara (aka False Lash Flutter), some cream samples, and a chocolate. Until 21.03.2015, if you’re in Germany, you could use this discount coupon at your local store.

Me? I just have to get the lipstick and the brow gel. And… I’m off for the last two days of Berlinale!
