2014 was a year of great cosmetics releases. There were a lot of beautiful makeup collections (Mac’s Alluring Aquatics come to mind, or Guerlain’s Un Soir a L’Opera) great new products (Nars Audacious Lipsticks) and a lot of skincare discoveries – oils really stepped into the spotlight, micellar waters by drugstore brands made it a little bit easier to access the hyped product. We at twindly are of course always keen on trying new products, but which products from 2014 will stay with us through 2015? Here are our 10 from 2014!

2014 definitely marked my (Dorit) deeper foray into skincare and a decision not to buy into LE frenzy any more. I still enjoy new makeup items tremenduously, but you gotta care for that canvas, right? Here are the beauty items I got in 2014 that will definitely stay in my drawers this year!

Makeup

Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick

Hands down the best new lipstick formulation of the year for me. Those apply creamy, but settle into a satiny colour that hugs your lips and won’t budge. No feathering, no bleeding and a comfortable feeling to boot. Really, I don’t have anything bad to say about the Envies. Even the colour selection has some real stunners like Brazen, Red Ego and Tumultuous Pink and isn’t at all granny-ish. http://bit.ly/1wkuxq3

Sephora Contour eye pencil 12HR wear

They have it all – great colour selection, a decent price, blendability, and they’re waterproof. Run, don’t go and get some! Honestly, they’re that good. Plus, you can choose between mattes and shimmers, so no problems for those who start to cry (literally) when they put shimmers on their waterlines. http://seph.me/1Aqw6X8

MAC Prep&Prime CC colour correcting SPF30 creme

My base of choice since autumn. I use ‘Adjust’ on my NC 15-ish skintone which evens out skin quite nicely, offers decent sun protection (wouldn’t use it in the height of summer without any additional sunscreen though) and played nicely with a lot of foundations I layered over it. Excellent base for mineral makeup especially! http://bit.ly/1tGrE1x

Clinique cheek pop blush

Came out in summer, sold out nearly everywhere and came back to stay. Thank you Clinique for that sensible decision. Those blushes are not only cute (that flower design!!!) but are available in four great shades that go on easily, blend like a dream and hold up really well (my wear-time was nearly ten hours). http://bit.ly/1zRAThC

Marsala makeup trend

Sorry peeps, for the first time since Tangerine Tango I unanimously love a colour trend. Marsala is flattering on all skintones and makes for a great lipstick colour, but worn as an eyeshadow? Stunning and letting this blue and hazel eyes pop! Go and try its different shades – experiment with all those wine and earthy hues! (We also did a blogpost about it here.) I promise you’ll love it. http://seph.me/1xAJbO0

Swatch time! Sephora contour eye pencil 12 hr wear in Roof Top Party, Estée Lauder Envy Lipstick in Red Ego, Clinique Cheek Pop in Peach Pop, Kiko Infinity Eyeshadow in 243 (Marsala trend), Mac CC cream in Adjust

Skincare

Ren Radiance Perfection Serum

I was looking for the longest time for a decent vitamin c serum without annoying silicones, parabens, alcohol and perfume. This is it. I use it every morning under my moisturizer and sunscreen and like its texture and how quickly it absorbs. Antioxidants like vit c are not only excellent for evening out your skin but also help in fighting against those uv rays when you put it under sunscreen, so this is a great choice for me. It also contains hyalurone, which my skin loves. Win! http://bit.ly/1wkxpTG

Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Rapid Radiance Mask

You can’t imagine how thankful I was that Pai brought back this mask for their holiday gifts 2014 and I can’t urge you enough to go and order it asap. We all know masks that are just nice and don’t do anything major, yes? Well, this isn’t one of those. This one makes my skin just looking better every time I use it. More even, more radiant, just a better version of it. It’s love. http://bit.ly/1HH8Do4

A4 cosmetics Golden Body Oil

A dry oil that contains a lot of almond, jojoba and argan oil with a really yummy citrus scent – what’s not to love? Makes my skin wonderfully soft without an icky oily film on my skin. My skin doesn’t mind perfume in skincare products, but next time maybe skimp on the perfumes, A4 cosmetics, so that sensitive people can enjoy this product as much as I do. http://bit.ly/1xBAwdZ

Everything else

Lush Lemony Flutter

Moisturised cuticles made the difference between week and peeling or splintering nails and strong and healthy ones. No nail hardener worked that well on my formerly weak nails than keeping the cuticles especially always moisturized. Thank you Lush! http://bit.ly/1Im1HuX

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt

Driftwood and salt on skin – I like this unisex scent both on me and on the husband. Sillage is on the better side of Jo Malone scents for me and projection is nearly non-existent. Nevertheless, a comfortable scent for all seasons that I enjoyed a lot. http://bit.ly/1HH9uVI

Stay tuned for Astrid’s fave products post that will be up on Monday!
